Good Morning all you Outstanding Navy Moms - Congrats to all who received mail and the ones who didn't - hang in there you will soon. My son did not say anything about any of his tests - so I am wondering. I am staying positive that no news is good news. Our sons/daughters are outstanding youth and need to be commended for their choice to serve in the US Navy. They will make it and so will we.

LOUANN0628 I'm not sure if there is a set schedule or not. Remember there are about 800 recruits in each graduating class so they have to stagger the phone usage. I believe my first real call came on a Sunday but after that they came on different days of the week.
Comment by txsailorsam-Donna on August 27, 2010 at 9:28am
It can be anytime at the RDC's discretion.

Does anyone out there know when they get their real first phone call, is it on a Saturday or Sunday?

Eileen: The important thing for all of these recruits to know is that the part of bc they are in right now is NOT the way the Navy is. The 2nd half gets alot better, and then A School is like RELIEF! They are graduated steps towards joining the fleet eventually. So many think the Navy will be as strict and hard as bc is, and it is not. My son is now stationed (since May) and loves the Navy.. So please keep encouraging these recruits. Remember, the RDCs are pushing them to do things that ther recruits never thought they could do. They are making them prove to themselves that they can give so much more! That is never an easy process. The changes that take place in these recruits is so evident at PIR. It is truly amazing...encouraging!

Remember, all....NO NEGATIVE NEWS should be sent to your recruits. Only encouragement. They need to focus all on their training, and the purpose of your letters is strictly to encourage them. The lack of contact with family is very hard on them, but so necessary to get them focused on what they can do. The Navy is all about teamwork...because in the fleet, lack of teamwork can cost some their lives. Believe me....they know what they are doing up there in GL!

txsailorsam: Jessica is absolutely right. They will have to call you,in the presence of Navy personnel, to let you know if they have to be asmoed(setback)due to test failure, etc. Any change to the PIR date is given to parents right away.
NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!

pamom: Some of them write after lights out under the "low lights," from what I was told. That was not MY son, for sure! He was a Sunday writer only....did you know that they do the ironing in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT? They have shifts. Is the PST a test for the SEAL program? Is it a fitness test? I know the regular fitness test for the other sailors is PFA.

For those who have not received letters yet, today may be the day...but I think for sure next week. Hang in there! And keep writing to them. I like what pamom's son said in her post below about how the letters make a bad day much better!

I received 3 letters yesterday!! I too was getting upset that I hadn't gotten any, but lo and behold there they were in my mailbox. He said they can only send them out on Sundays, and they have so many thing to do, they really have to budget their time wisely. I think he sneaks in some writing at night maybe, because the 3 letters were all from diffferent days. His grandparents each got a letter yesterday also. I KNOW he didn't have enough time to write all those letters in one Sunday afternoon.
He is adjusting well, I think. Alot of standing at attention, studying, standing watch, ironing, and now they are finally doing PT. He passed his first PST test the other day. He did say "please keep writing letters, we all LOVE mail, if the day has gone bad and then we get mail, it makes it so much better"
So everyone keep your chins up, the letters will start coming!! Have a good Friday everyone.

Hang in there to those that haven't received a letter. I didn't either. Am trying to stay positive. We have good days and bad days.

Got another letter today from my son. It was great to read all that he had to say. He kept up a running letter that he just kept adding to all week as he had a minute before he dropped off to sleep. I loved it!!
