Hi ladies, just popping in to share a little something I did for my new Sailor. Our town publishes a weekly newspaper and they put announcements on the front page. I sent in the following Press Release along with a photo of my son. Thought I'd save you all a lot of time trying to find an "Official" press release since our recruiter knew nothing about it. I did some research and found this:

Press Release

Navy (Rank) (First Name) (Last Name), son of (Parent's name) and (Parent's name) of (City), (State), recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IIL.

During the eight-week program, (Sailor's Last Name) completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." This exercise gives recruits the key skills and confidence they need to graduate and take to the Fleet. "Battle Stations" has been designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly 'Navy' flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor.

(Sailor's Last Name) is a (Year) graduate of (School) of (City), (State).

Looking back at the posts and realizing we really are a small group. One united color with division numbers would probably stand out more. There are only 64 members in this group so far, and prob close to 900 recruits. We could each individual ours a bit with rating symbols or kid names.

This is just a suggestion - but I've seen other PIR groups spend days/weeks rehashing what to wear to identify yourselves, etc. So here it is: KISS (keep it simple sweetie). It truly does not matter which division your loved on is in when you get to the Meet & Greet or PIR, so having different colors and trying to cordinate that can be sort of challenging - for example, my version of red may be different than yours. Having nice white tees that say N4M is a good idea, but just doing ribbons is really the best way to go. My PIR just did ribbons, then that last 2 wks we decided to wear name tags, with our User Name on top, then real name below it. I was the ONLY one who showed up at PIR with a name tag on!!! But we all had our ribbons. We just bought anything with Red/White/Blue and made a loop ribbon and pinned it on. And we all thought that we would introduce our kids/loved one to our friends after the ceremony - fat chance! What were we thinking??? Once you get that kid next to you, you don't let go, you forget there are over 1,500 people around you and you just get out of that place and begin your weekend. Except in the hallways at the hotel, I never saw my N4M friends again - and that's the way it should be. These are just my two cents, and I'd like them back because I'm saving my pennies to visit my sailor in Italy!!!

Hi. My Name is Yolanda and just getting started here. My son Brian is with ship 13 DIV 329 PIR 10/1/10... We are from Hardeeville SC. Im very proud on my son for wanting to join the navy. His grandfather retired E-9 his great grandfather was also in the Navy and in world war II. Im sure they would both be proud of him for carrying on the tradition if they we with us///

Maureen, we are discussing the option of wearing ribbons on PIR day to A. Identify eachother as a N4Mer, B. Possibly distinguish between ships and divisions, and C. support our guys and gals. Flip back a page or two and you will see a sample of the ribbons.

gcmb: They DO watch the wisdom teeth when they are far from being in and don't look problematic...yet. But again...if they think there is any chance of problems, they will take them. They can be taken at any point during bc, but usually before or at the end. They have excellent dentists, etc in the Navy so I'm sure he will get great care if it comes to that.

Thanks Becky!! you will be there with us... I have no doubt!! My boss' son was enrolled one week before Tiffie, he went in as a Seal, he ended up breaking his shoulder blade and collar bone, it was done "Off the course of the norm" they immediately called him (boss) and said you have every right to sue us, but we would like to fix him and keep him (he will no longer be able to pursue his option as a SEAL as he will need pins to fix it) so ....... 8 days into his leaving MEPS he is at a hospital :( they are still in the *what do we do, stages* I pray he will stick it out, but the fact is, he's laid up for awhile, he was in DEP for a year, worked his butt off and now is injured... it sucks...

BECKY.... you talk that boy into staying with us.... and I pray to GOD that we all are on 10/1 PIR I have faith!!!!

I just posted my color choice on the August deppers page.... whooopsie daiseeeyyy!!! My suggestion was why don't we all have ONE color for all PIR on that date because some of us don't have any or very few in our divisions.... It may be stupid, but I'm like one of maybe two of us that post on here that are in the same division :( I think N4M's only touches 1% of the families that will be there) It would show the N4M's website is all for one and one for all?? I don't know... if you don't concur, then so be it... I'll find my division friend and pick a color....I would pick pink, but I think her boy is a boy and wouldn't concur!! LOL hahahaha
