Maureen,,, thanks for the quick answer,,,I have sent him 6 letters so far. I have sent a paper pic, stamps, or some small flat thing in each letter to make him smile. he told me sleeping under red lights made him feel like an iguana so I sent him a pic of an iguana. He still has a sense of humor. Have a great day!

Txsailorsam......Your recruit will be able to tell you if he or she is a grad and go, thats always the best source. I would suggest that you make your reservations as soon as possible as hotels tend to fill up once a group has their PIR date. There are many in the Waukegan area to choose from. Thats about 3 miles from the base.
As far as asmo'd goes.....cant tell you how likely it is BUT, I can tell you that when you write your recruit, always stay positive and give them lots of encouragement. Dont be negative at all. This is a hard adjustment for them and they need all the encouragement from home that they can. Receiving letters from home, is what keeps them going !!!!

How do you know if your recruit is g and g? How soon before PIR should you make reservations? How likely is it that they get asmo'd? Too many questions?

The NL is not on base, google navy lodge great lakes. It is $65 per night and they did not limit us on the number of nights.
Comment by MichelleB. on August 12, 2010 at 12:06am
What were the rates at the Navy Lodge? How many nights can you book? How would you get on base? (Its on base right :))
Comment by LTLY on August 11, 2010 at 11:19pm
I allready made our arrangements, I went for the Navy Lodge. I stayed at one on Corodado Island a few years ago and it was great for what we needed and the price. Also, I have my little ones, so we chose convenience to the base in hopes to just shuttle over on PIR day. Just fyi for anyone considering booking more than one room, the NL will let you book up to 3 rooms per graduate. We have lots of family attending so it was neccesary info.

Is anyone else making their lodging arrangements? I know there are motels that are close to the base, but there are also nice motels that are close to fairly good restaurants, etc. Do I want convenience to the base or comfort for the rest of the time.

Remember, every single Recruit is a winner in my book, whether they make it on this list or not! Please notice that last names have been removed, however you can find them on the bootcamp website.
