Did you know that the other name for the 800 division is called "The Body Snatchers"??? It's because these are also the same guys who slide around all over and between the rows of new sailors during the PIR ceremony, they are ready to "catch" them if they fall down. Standing in formation for 1 1/2 hrs can make legs go numb and they don't want anyone passing out. LOL... When I saw these guys at my son's graduation, it looked like they were bad guys starring down our new sailors and it made me mad, until someone told me why they were there! So I am grateful for the 800 division groups!!!

Kelly - yes, all 800 division numbers are Special Ops. All 900 division numbers are those recruits who have musical talents (choir, band, flag holders, etc.)

Does anyone know the meaning behind the DIV numbers? Are the 900 and 800 numbers for specific recruits? My son is in DIV 820 so is he with all the Special Ops guys?

Can you guys ask your recruits if there is someone in their division who is not receiving any mail? It happens more often than you realize. I've been writing to several recruits since my son graduated and most of them are almost done with bc, so I need some more pen pals! If you want to speed the process up, I can write a couple of "Dear Recruit" letters to send to your own recruit now, so they can pass them out if they are needed. You would need to send me your recruits name & address via the inbox, then I will write your recruit a short note telling them why the letters are enclosed (so they don't think I'm a crazy person!). I don't do this for pat's on the back, I do it because I know it makes a difference in a young person's life - and the rewards are endless. Some of the letters these recruits have written back to me are priceless! Let me know, friend me first.

FYI: Don't lose your form letter! I just read another post of a frantic mom who can't find it and needs the password for the parking/gate pass. Even if you take the motel shuttle to the base, you need the pass to return your sailor that evening, and to pick up/drop off the rest of PIR weekend. Make 2 copies and put them in different places. I put one in my undie drawer because I knew I would open that drawer everyday and not forget where I put it!

michelle1972 - If you are asking what TG means, it stands for Training Groups (the number of groups or Divisions that graduate on the same day). A Division is approx 88 recruits who live and train together. Their Division number is important, for lots of reasons, but it will ALWAYS define them. They write that number on their lid (sailor hat, aka dixie cup) and that always stays with them, well after boot camp is over! Ship number just identifies the building their barracks are in (each building also has a name of a famous US ship). We won't know how many divisions are in this PIR (Pass-In-Review, aka graduation) group for about a week. It takes a while for them to fill up all the divisions. Those first 4-10 days they arrive are called Processing Days (P-days) and they are not assigned to Divisions until those are over. I hope this info helped!

BTW, a great thing to do while your recruit is in bc is to change your User ID name (go to settings in right hand corner of your page). If others know your Division number and PIR group, they can identify you quicker.
Here's how my User ID looked like when my son was in bc:

We're already contemplating whether to fly into Milwaukee or Chicago. Definitely have to get some Chicago Style Pizza while there.
