Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by Mamaren05 on September 11, 2015 at 9:41pm: Oh for SR's in Ship 06-div 355- the permanent RDC's are allowing SR's to call once a week !! So mom's definitely keep your phone near you!

He misses us of course but has met so many amazing lifelong friends! He said everyone is his division is doing well. There are a few SR's that are not receiving letters from home. So I will ask for more info on who is not receiving letters perhaps some of you moms would want to adopt one and send an additional letter for them? Thanks !! Ship 06 div 355

Comment by scorpiozen on September 11, 2015 at 6:22pm: I received a letter from my SR today (he left 8/24). I can rest easy now. He's OK!! Says his RDCs are loud and crazy, it's weird being surrounded by 94 other guys, and the peanut butter shot made him walk funny for a couple of days, LOL. He's passed all his tests and he's trying to fly under the radar so he doesn't get yelled at as much as the "talkers" are.

He also said, "I love you and thank you, you really did set me up well for boot camp." Music to a mother's ears. :-)

I know without a shadow of a doubt if he could get on that phone and tell me how happy he is following his dream since he was 12 , he would.the mama bear in me has almost called up there twice to see what the problem is ... Lol, my other son who's going to the marines said mama don't do that he will get I trouble. I know I know... I have to remember I taught him to be a man, so I need to let him try
