Hi! My name is Jackie and my son is Ship 9, Division 346. I received "the box" and the form letter, but nothing else yet! Really missing him and wish I knew how he was doing. Glad to be in the group!
Kim I understand. My new baby got up at the butt crack of dawn this morning and I was just starting to doze off when the phone rang. Now I am to wired to sleep :)
YEAH! I just got a quick phone call from Trey (Ship 11 DIV 349) for his references. He sounds great and in good spirits! It was such a relief to hear his voice. I haven't gotten any letters yet but he did say that he has mailed 3 so far. Hopefully they will start rolling in. Thank you to whoever posted the area code 847 for us. I probably wouldn't have answered if I didn't know that!
Hi...Just wondering if anyone from ship11 div 349 have received anything other than the form letter yet? Just getting anxious to her from my son or at this point any news from the group he is in
Michelle, she would most likely still be the same PIR date. I would continue forth with your arrangements. Are you driving or flying to GL? Some parents don't think about Southwest Airlines when they make their arrangements and they are easy to change or postpone if necessary. They fly into Milwaukee (an easy 50 minute drive to GL) and Midway in Chicago, as well. Usually things won't change, but if by chance they do, it is easy to change a flight date on SW without any penalties. They also offer 2 free checked bags per person. We also recommend that when you book your PIR weekend that if possible, try to stay in IL until late Saturday night or Sunday. This way if you would like to go to the airport with your sailor, for their departure to A school, you will still have time to get to whichever airport you are flying out of as well. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing ahead of time which airport that the sailors will leave from, but usually it would be O'Hare or Midway.
Thanks Betsy! The information you provided has put me at ease:)) I am in the processing of making the hotel and car rental arrangements and I was wondering if her being in a push division will affect the PIR date (10/26/12) she provided in her 1st letter.
Michelle, the first couple of weeks are hard on them, no doubt. But after about 3 weeks, they do start to get in the routine and will have much better spirits. She is getting to that point very soon and I'm sure you will see that reflected in her letters home. She will be put on light duty after having her wisdom teeth pulled, so for a day or so, she will be able to take it a little bit easier. I'm sure that alone, will give her a much better outlook.
A "push" division is a division that pushes through boot camp a bit sooner than some others. It will depend on the amount of time that it takes some divisions to get through processing, that will declare them a push division. Many times the RDC's decide to push them through with other divisions who had arrived earlier and got through processing a few days to a up to a week sooner. The alternative is that the RDC's may just wait for the next PIR group and they would then spend a longer time at boot camp. Push divisions do work a little harder since they have less time to accomplish what they need to do, but they always pull it off and do just fine.
I received a call from my daughter (Ship-09, Div 346) last night and she sounded very tired and a little down. I was a bit surprised to hear her say that she wanted to come home; however, I think the motivator behind this is that she had to have her wisdom teeth pulled the next day and mom wasn't going to be there with her:(( After a few words of encouragement, comfort, and prayer from mom & dad she did sound a little better.
She said she had 10 minutes to talk but it was really only like 3 minutes tops. She did share that she has been extremely busy and I was surprised by all that she has done in such a short time. She left for BC on 8/28; however, she said she has already taken and passed her swim qual, PT test, and some other tests as well. Also she mentioned that she was made a section leader for her division. I was a little confused because it has only been two weeks since she left - she did mention that she was in a 'Push' division, can anyone please explain? Thanks.
