Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

ProudMom: Not sure about Spirit, but checkout Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min drive to GL, no traffic, car rental cheaper usually) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ drive to GL, depending on traffic). They have no change fee if your SR is delayed for any reason and 2 bags check for free. Wish I had known about this when my son was there....because he was delayed a week! We had to pay the $150/per ticket change, but thankfully the airfare for the new flights was a little cheaper so it didn't come out to quite that much.

*Navy Lodge doesn't have a Navy Graduation rate. The others usually do but only for a certain number of rooms, that go fast! We stayed at Residence and liked it alot. Larger suites available there if you have alot attending. I know people who have stayed at all of the other ones also....and they also liked them.

tdpdanbury: Please check out TripAdvisor reviews on here about Ramada. We have had very mixed reviews on this hotel....some hate it, some said it was ok, some liked it. Other hotels to consider are: Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you do not have our own military ID), Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, and Residence Inn. All good hotels. Navy Lodge is about a mile from RTC; the others are about 4-5 miles from RTC. Close to the MeetandGreet and a nice Walmart shopping center with restaurants nearby. Be sure to call these hotels to book directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount, should you decide to leave Ramada.

Ship 12 Div 349.... He left Sept. 4th, got the box 4 days later and the form letter on the 15th. Received our first call on Saturday Sept. 20th. All seems well, but he wouldn't tell me otherwise. Anxiously awaiting our first letter but he never was a writer. This should be interesting. So proud of his decision.

Ship 12 Div 349--My son arrived at boot camp 9/4, I got the "I'm here" call, the box & the form letter. Still anxiously awaiting any personal letter. This is harder than I thought it would be...miss him a lot. I have made hotel arrangements for PIR and now am looking at airfare. Does anyone have any experience with Spirit airlines as they seem to have the cheapeast fares?

My son PIR is Oct 31st SHIP 13 DIV 351. I do not come from a military family, so all this is new to me. I will be staying at the Ramada Waukegan/Gurnee does anybody know anything about this hotel?

Hey there CNK999: If your form letter says PIR 10/31, you are in the right group! Welcome! It could be that you are the first from Div 821 to join the group. Keep watching on here as I'm sure more will join soon!
