N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Dmaeship12div410,

My son is in the same Div as your SR. Hang in there! I'm here for you if you need someone to talk to. I haven't gotten any letters from my SR yet and I missed his call yesterday. We were still at work when he called - when I got home and check the answering machine he had left 3 messages. I felt a little sick to my stomach that we had missed his call. He was still a little homesick but sounded better than his first call on 9/14. He had his wisdom teeth pulled, he had passed is fitness test, swim qualification and written tests. He didn't get to call last Saturday because he had to stand watch. He said he was good, but missed us. I must have listened to the messages 3 times last night! I told my hubby he better not erase them - so I can listen to the messages whenever I want. He also said he wrote a letter - I hope it comes today! Time to stalk the mailman!

aVOL2,

Since your letters themselves are probably dated, you could either let him know to throw out the envelopes, but consolidate the letters themselves into envelopes so save space in his personal property drawer, or send him a large manila envelope to return the letters he has been receiving home.. I don't know how much postage to figure on that though.  Any of the other veteran moms know how that is done?

Lucille:  Are you driving or flying?  If flying, checkout Southwest Airlines into either Chicago-Midway or Milwaukee.  Milwaukee has less traffic and the drive is a little shorter.  But sailors flying out to A School will be leaving from the Chicago airports so if you plan to visit at the airport with your sailor, keep that in mind.  We suggest all book their plans to return on Sunday if possible, in case sailors flying out do not leave until Sunday (usually Sat., but sometimes Sun).  If your sailor will be staying in GL for A School, book back as late as possible on Sunday or even Monday as you will have Daytime Liberty through the weekend with your sailor in that case.

Hotels recommended by previous PIR group attendees on this site are:

Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name, mention Navy Graduation)-mile to RTC

These hotels are in Waukegan/Gurnee about 4-5 miles from RTC:

Springhill Suites

Courtyard Inn

Residence Inn

Holiday Inn Express

Call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Grad rate.

All use the local shuttle service for PIR morning, and Sarge's shuttle service is available as well.  Same price.  You can also drive to PIR.

Good Morning All !

Lucille, my sr is on same ship and division as yours!!

aVOL2, You can send your SR a large envelope with postage attached for you SR to send some of the letters he has received back home.. You may want to ask or let him know you are sending one to him. He will probably have to open it in front of the RDC, but it will not cause an issue.
