N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

5 letters today from my SR. Ship 03 Div 416. 1 letter to Mom, 1 letter to Dad and 3 letters filled with answers to the questioner's I sent him. Overall he is doing well.

I am hoping for a call or letter soon as well.  I have a box, a form letter and have received one phone call on 9/14 and he asked me to send his bible.  I couldn't have been happier!  It's been uplifiting to see everyone's comments and track how things are going through the different SR's as they send letters and make calls.

Just letting everyone know my daughter received letter from our SR today and in it he stated that their division's 411/412 next day to make calls would be Wednesday.  I make no promises obviously, but incase that is accurate keep your phones near.

Hello everyone! My Grandson is in Ship 13 Div 412' and his PIR is 11/1. I am faithfully writing to him, and his Mother has received a call a couple of weeks ago, and a letter. I am still in awe of the Man he has become. My Daughter and I have our flights booked and will be there Nov 1' can't wait to see him!

KEB:  My form letter is from 2009 so it may have changed some now.  But I just looked at my son's...in it, they say:

"In addition to the information enclosed, I encourage you to visit our website at (gave a website that has now been replaced by www.bootcamp.navy.mil).  There you will find useful information regarding contacting your recruit and the formal recruit graduation - a Military Pass - In - Review.  Please also note the important information contained here from your recruit regarding graduation."

One thing you all will find out about the Navy is that family is very secondary...your sailor's service is the top priority.  We have had ladies post that they went to PIR to see their sailor...they had not received the I'm a Sailor call but figured all was ok...only to get there and find that their sailor had not passed everything and would not graduate.  Although they would allow a 2 hr visit between family/SR in previous years, they no longer allow this.  This just happened about 2-3 weeks ago in a graduation group....the family members were told that the SR would "call you" later that day but the call never came.

So...even though you may have a form letter with a certain number of guests allowed, if they post a different number (lower) on their website, that is what will be allowed.  Your 4th person would either be allowed to watch the LIVESTREAM in the chapel on base (not a guarantee) or be sent off base.

And, yes, you are correct.  Only about 10-15 percent of the SRs are actually represented on N4Moms so much info would be strictly by form letter, SR contact, and if the person went on the website for info.  However, if they choose not to check the website for info, and they arrive at PIR to find a SR not graduating, oh well!

Also, you will not receive a "corrected" form letter.  This has not happened in the past when they changed the number of guests.  They expect that your SR will give you the info.  Having said that, no division will ever miss its PIR date, but individuals will.  They can be asmoed (setback) for many different things:  illness, injury, failure of physical fitness tests or academic tests, etc.  They are supposed to call you when their PIR date changes for any reason, so there would be contact.

I know it is hard to get used to this, ladies.  But the Navy pretty much "owns" your SRs now.  They answer to the Navy for everything.  Now, in return, the Navy takes care of their own....like one big family!  It is a hard tradeoff, but military families are STRONG and can do it!  :-)

Divisions end up being PUSH when they have been through processing and then put on hold while waiting for more recruits to arrive. Those push divisions have less time to get all their training in than the rest of the TG. My son was in a push and his BS was at week 6 day 1 of training.

It was so confusing for me to try and follow what he was doing day by day until I found out he was in a push because his training wasn't following the "norm" for day by day.
