N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

KB:  Thanks for the heads up to all about the soccer tournament in town that weekend possibly making hotel rooms more scarce.

So everyone, go ahead and find/book your hotel.  There usually is no penalty if you have to cancel, up to day before/day of arrival (if you book directly with hotel....travel discount groups may have different rules!).  Reminder again that ones recommended by past groups have been:

Navy Lodge

Springhill Suites

Courtyard Inn

Residence Inn

Holiday Inn Express

*All but Navy Lodge are located close together in Waukegan/Gurnee area.  Navy Lodge is about a mile from RTC, in the housing area.

...it is best to try and book your return flights later on Sunday or even Monday if you want to ensure not to miss time with your sailors.  You can always sightsee in the area if your sailor leaves on Saturday, but it would be sad to miss any time with your sailor because you assumed he/she would leave on Saturday, but they left on Sunday, etc.  So try and work it that way if possible!

KB:  Most of the sailors will fly out on Saturday for A School.  It is possible that some will fly out Sunday.  Unusual for them to fly out on Monday, but it could happen.  This is what RTC has to say about it:

Q.
How much weekend liberty will my recruit receive?
A.

Recruits staying in Great Lakes for their A School will check into their new command immediately after graduation. That check-in process can take up to five hours. You may wait at the Mainside Visitors center. The Great Lakes A Schools are NOT located onboard Recruit Training Command. Your recruit will be able to contact you when they have completed the check-in process. They will receive guidance regarding their exact liberty hours upon checking into their A school.

If your recruit will be attending A School out of state, they will fly out the day following graduation. There may be a delay if there is a flight availability issue but only your recruits is permitted to give you their exact flight/departure information. Their graduation daytime liberty hours will be determined by their Recruit Division Commander (RDC) prior to commencing liberty. Please ensure your recruit returns to RTC with adequate time for their arrival to the barracks prior to expiration of liberty.

FYI Everyone ... There is a huge soccer tournament in town the same weekend at the Nov 1 PIR graduation. I would book your hotel rooms early.

KB2OWJ, I think it may depend on where your SR is going for A School.

Getting a little frustrated .. Saw posts and one of my son's friend's Dad told me they leave for A school on Saturdays and someone here posted Mondays. Wish I knew so I can make better air and hotel plans.  Don't want to miss any extra time we may be able to spend with him after PIR.
