OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

KatXmom ship09div418PIR11/01/13 I think I will do the same. What a great idea, Thanks for the laugh.

lcast1277 I don't think any of us moms think stalking your mailman is a bad thing. I will keep my fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed for you.

Just checked the mail. No letter yet from my SR:( I feel like I'm stocking the mail man as well. I've sent 8 letters so far having gotten his address last Thursday. I just hope and pray that the number of people to attend the graduation is at least 4. My husband is so heart broken that he was not on my SR's list as well as my 10 year old:(

I'm just going to leave it in God's hands. I have faith it will all work out:)

When I get my letter I'm going to frame it because it will be the first left actually written by my son and I'm sure as he is writing it he is thinking how texting is so much easier... lol
