N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good Morning All !

Addison, I am with you! I am keeping them coming everyday. I gave all of our loved ones the address and said please write!! I want my son to get bombarded with mail so he can feel all the love and support from home. We need to keep the connection until they are back in the real world with their cell phones and Skype!! I also told him to give me names and addresses of friends whoot not be receiving mail so we can pop a card in the mail for them as well.

I just saw a post on this website saying we will only be allowed 3 guests at PIR:( we are already planning on 5 of us going and 1 missing graduation. Now it looks like 2 will be missing out. One will be my dad who trained at Great Lakes 40 years ago. I am still going to cross my fingers for 4 until we hear otherwise!!

The divisions have not been confirmed by the RTC yet, but seeing the next PIR group is getting their form letters this seems to be the divisions for this TG.

If the divisions are correct there are 13 divisions for this PIR and only 3 guests will be permitted. Still hoping the RTC updates their site soon.

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC apply to the Discussion Forum area as well. The Division Discussions are viewable to all...just like the Main Wall here.

Please do not start new Division Discussions.

Discussion Forum Area

This is the place to start a Discussion about a topic and for your Division Discussions.

The Discussion Forum area is set to show titles only and is set at ten titles at a time for now. (This can be adjusted by the group creator or an administrator)

It is also set to show the "latest activity" (there are other settings). So whatever has just had a reply added to it will "bump" that Discussion to the top. The discussion will stay up there at the top because it has had "activity"…until the next Discussion has activity. If there are over ten discussions, whatever is at the bottom will disappear from view…but not from the Discussion Forum. So, if you want to see more, click "view all" at the bottom right hand corner of the discussion forum area. It is right up there above the Blue Comment Wall bar.

To "bump" up a discussion to the first spot of the DF area when you don't really want to add a reply...in other words someone is looking for it...just type whatever you want in the reply box and click "add reply". I just type one letter or even a period and add the reply.

When you view a DF by clicking on the title, the first post ever made will be the first one on the first page. To get to the most current reply, click “Last Reply” directly underneath that particular Discussion.

~You will also notice that in the top right corner in any post that you do you will see an "x". This is so you may delete your post if you need too. You will also see the “x” on any post you make anywhere else on the site.

We have posted your Division Discussions up above. Please use them to get to know each other even better on a "Divisional" basis...BUT remember that you all have the same PIR date and many of you will be attending the same Meet and Greets...so please continue to post on the Main Wall here!

Also, please continue to post your questions for us "veteran moms" on the Main Wall here. We have 7-8 active PIR groups going at one time..that's 70-80 Divisions! We try to get to the Division Discussions but with that many it is difficult! We don't want to miss any questions as ALL are important...no dumb ones...for many of you this is your first service member and we want to be there to help and lend support.

GarayMom,

The Navy also gives them a $100 cash card to use to purchase toiletries and incidentals at the NEX, so you don't really need to send anything unless your SR writes to you that he needs this or that.  My Sailor daughter would write to each of us and request paper from one, stamps from another, SASE from yet another.  She did have a writing pad and envelopes with that cool Navy seal on it, but when that ran out, she didn't want to buy another one.  Calling cards are fine.  No gum or anything else.  It's not allowed and the SRs will get in trouble.

Hello GarayMom, Welcome to N4M. If your son left from Chicago Meps on 9/5 I am the one that hugged you. I hope it was ok I just knew how you felt and don't think our family members did. We love our children from the moment we find out we are pregnant (or maybe after we stop throwing up - lol)  and it doesn't stop when they leave for the Navy so yes this is very hard but we are Moms and we will survive this and be strong for them. We have each other on this site to lean on for support and advice. Which is great because nobody else seems to understand like the other Navy Moms do so thank you ladies. I read your post and I am comforted to know I am not alone. My son is in ship 3, div 415. I did not send him with a calling card but he bought one there and used it already. I was so worried but it worked out just fine. The envelopes and stationary is supplied for them. I would send him some stamps but if necessary they can also buy them there. Hang in there xxxx  Someone told me to count Fridays instead of weeks because it sounds better. I am also writing him everyday that helps also.

Flight, hotel, and car booked. I can't wait to see my son graduate and celebrate his birthday too!! Since his A school is in Great Lakes we can spend a couple extra days with him! So proud of mine and yours!,

Maude:  Navy Lodge may be a good choice for you. You book it in your SR's name, tell them it is for graduation.  They recently renovated and it is only a mile from base.  You also get a free pass to use at a smaller NEX in the area....and your sailor doesn't have to be with you for that NEX with the pass!  :-)

Welcome to the newbies in this group!
