N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My SIL got the letter from our SR.  She's PIR 11/1 ship 02 Div 951 A Triple Threat.  So proud of her.  Leave it to her to find a way to perform AND be in the Navy.

Hi! Just a quick note to say hi to everyone. Looking forward to getting to know all of you since our sailors are going to be graduating together.  It made me feel so much better once I got his address and was able to mail all the letters I had written.  I'm sure he's needing a little bit of love from home about now. I miss him like crazy and can't wait to hear from him.  I'm so very proud of him!!!!  GO NAVY!!!!

Ladies, just a reminder.  If you have used your SR's last name in your screen name, please change that.  We are not allowed to have SRs' last names on this site.  Just go to your Settings (top right of this page) and change from there.  If not your SR's last name, no problem!

Calls can come from your SRs at ANY TIME!  So keep that phone close.  You may want to change your voicemail greeting  during bootcamp to greet your SR in case you miss the call.  How wonderful it would be for your SR to hear that greeting if he/she can't talk directly to you!  Some even forward their home phones to their cells when they will be out just in case.

CatMom509

This weekend????? a call already?????

Comment by CatMom509 on September 13, 2013 at 1:17am

Friends,

When your SRs finally get to call (like maybe this weekend), the area code will most likely show "847", but it could be any other area code or "unknown" so pick up all calls and if it is a solicitor, just tell them politely, "no, thank you."  Keep your cell phones near you and fully charged at all times.  Take it to the bathroom, outside with you, upstairs, in the basement.  If your SR calls the home phone, have calls forwarded to your cell when you are out and about!!  If you are going to some place somewhat loud, put your phone on vibrate and then in your pocket or bra to be sure not to miss the call~~

If you know you will be somewhere without cell reception, change your outgoing message to let them know you are out of cell reception, but you love them, miss them, and could they please leave you a message on how they're doing??
