N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

*I'm afraid they could get IT for this....

YIKES on the candy, SheisaSeabee!  I hope that the RDCs are not joking with them...they are normally NOT allowed to have anything like that, even for Halloween.  They try to keep the SR's in good shape, diet-wise and physically.  Hmmmm.....I dunno.  ellen, Lala, CatMom....what do you guys think?  Should she send the candy????  The other things are fine...they make them lock them up until pictures/PIR.

I have been on here (PIR groups) through Halloween 2010, 2011, and 2012 and have never heard of them being allowed to have candy sent to them before.  I'm just a bit skeptical...let us know what happens!  By the way, some RDCs may be more lenient than others....but RTC requests that NO CARE PACKAGES be sent to the SRs.  I'm afraid they get get IT for this....

Please read the info here in the Family Guide under Contacting your Recruit for info on care packages:

She also said she would not be able to call again until right before graduation (final call after BS). I'll be waiting anxiously!

I got a call from my SR last night, very short call, she said they were supposed to call and
tell us about the 3 guest thing, but she knew we already knew. She gave me a list of things to send (straightening iron, hair brush) and CANDY!! She said they can have it as long as they have enough to share, so I hit the Halloween candy isle :-) She told me Jolly Ranchers work best. Ship 11/Div 420 will get a nice surprise this week!
Oh, and she made Sharp Shooter - 1 point shy of Expert - never having shot a gun before. She was so happy and proud! Can't wait to hug her!!

delana:  So sorry about that.  Is it possible that your phone battery was low?  I say that because the only time my phone goes directly to voicemail is when my battery is on the low side.  But who knows with cell phones?  They have a mind of their own.  Sure hoping he can call one more time before BattleStations!  If he can't, you still should be receiving a very special call a couple of days before PIR!

By the way, when my son was at bootcamp, he had what I think was called a "kickback" when he shot, which cut his finger.  He did not pass that part of the weapons because of it, but it didn't keep him from graduating.  He was told that he could take it again during A School whenever he wanted to....he could earn his "black' ribbon then.

Good Morning All !

The live fire is actually NOT required.

Missed my SR's calls today. My phone didn't even ring. I just saw two voicemails pop up on my screen. He sounded awfully disappointed as am I. Ugh, 11 more days ladies!

KB20WJ, I can't tell you if he will miss something else with his division, but I can tell you they are not going to make him fall behind in training with his division.

Comment by KB2OWJ Ship 03 Div 415 on October 19, 2013 at 7:55pm

Thanks ellen0502 and diannep.  Hopefully he'll get it done this week.  He was so disappointed that he couldn't do it with his Div. Only thing is if they do it with another Div, will they be missing something else that their own Div is doing?

Comment by ellen0502 on October 19, 2013 at 6:30pm

KB20WJ, You're son should still go through weapons training and live fire, he will just go with another division. There are many recruits who have to "make up" what they have missed along the way. There is medical, SIQ, interviews etc. that cause them to miss some training, but they will get it at some point.
