OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thanks both CallitThisLand and Sarabi2013, I don't know what I would do without all the women in our group! I keep my email up all day so I can keep up with all the posts! Lol! I hope everyone has a good night!

JENJEN1968, for whatever it's worth...my SR said in his letter today that Ship 12 is being shut down soon for winter cleaning. They will be moving to a new ship soon. He asked that we keep mailing though!

Thanks CallitThisLand, I got a letter from my SR today too and he didn't mention the move at all...it was my understanding that their ship is the flag ship? It just worries me. Has your SR said how they are doing on inspections or how many flags they have gotten as a div?

I was just on Facebook for our PIR group and one of the Moms said her SR wrote that Ship 12 lost Funding they are shutting it down and that Div 409 &410 where moving in 2 weeks! That is my sons Div, I am freaking out a little bit. Can anyone verify if this is true and where they will move them to?

Addison's mom, I am happy for you!! Thursday is my favorite day now, too!! My sr sounded like his old, happy self this week, so I am happy, also!! I have been terribly kid sick this week. Will there ever come a time when we will not miss our kids, or is this how it is going to be for the next five years!!?? I still cannot bring myself to clean his room.

Just got a call from grandma and she got a letter today.  I can't wait to get home and see what's in the mailbox.  We haven't gotten any letters yet because he missed the chance to send some the first go around because he was at church.  Happy he was at church, sad we didn't get any mail!  Enjoy your letters!
