Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

It sounds like it will not be a huge surprise to him that bio dad will not be there. What counts to him is most likely that the person who has been there for him always will be there- you!! Thoughts and prayers with you both.

Because we are only allowed 3 guests, my SR has to make a decision of who is going to be at the ceremony. (sister or girlfriend). This is his decision, but I know already that his sister will be very upset if he chooses GF over her. We always lived by the motto.. Family first. He will still get to spend time with all of us (GF included) after the ceremony, so its not total loss.

Comment by Smile09 AD/HM Mom on October 7, 2013 at 8:30pm: Some of you may remember a couple of weeks back I told my ex-husband (who has not been a huge part of our SR's life) that he could take my spot at PIR and I would watch from livestream. It was a very difficult thing to do, but I knew that is what God wanted me to do. The same day, I got a call from my SR telling me he wanted me in that spot, not his dad. My gut told me to wait and see how my ex responded. I was supposed to get an answer from my ex on Wed, but Saturday rolled around and nothing. I took a chance and contacted him. Ex says he is not coming at all now, and that we should have a good time. I am so grateful there will not be conflict, but at the same time I am sad for my SR that his bio-dad is not showing up, again. I am also grateful that I never had to tell bio-dad that his son preferred me there instead of him!! Prayers answered:)

Getting so excited to see my sailor! And, I'm from PA, never been to Chicago before, looking forward to it but then again, I'll be fine with just hanging in the hotel room with everyone!!
