N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Navybeansmom, Plan on Staying through Sunday if you can. While she won't know her flight details until shortly before PIR, there have been a few in the most recent groups who's sailors have not left on Sat, which is the norm.

You can always visit Chicago and do some sight seeing yourself if she does end up flying out Saturday sometime. :)

daughter going to pensacola after PIR, she seems to think she will have liberty for the whole weekend...when do they know for sure? we are flying into indiana and driving to RTC up with family. If she has liberty all weekend we will need a hotel room and really dont want to scramble...ready to move mountains to see her for more than a few hours...but advance notice would help

diannep, is 6:30 the earliest the shuttles start?

Comment by Dmaeship12div410 on October 6, 2013 at 10:55am

When will they know for sure where they are going to school and when? Should my SR know now or will it be later closer to PIR?

Thank you diannep for the information!

Question?? Since 3 guests are permitted for our TG my 2 other children will be staying at the Lodge during PIR, does anyone know how long we have with our SR's before they check in to A school (GL)? I was wondering if my husband would have time to drive back to the Navy Lodge to get the other 2 kiddos to see their brother before he moves to A school.

CodysMom:  Some of the hotels stream the PIR ceremony in a conference room for you.  Check with your hotel.  Otherwise, laptop.  Although RTC personnel told us that they would allow some "extras" to watch the livestream in the Chapel on base under "special circumstances," they strongly discourage extras from coming to RTC.

And, no, if not driving on base, you do not need the gate pass.  However, if your sailor will be returning to RTC that night and you want to drive on base to drop him/her off, you need it, so best to download/print and have it with you.  You should have a password in your form letter that you will use to get the gate pass, usually available starting about 11 days before PIR (although lately they have been sometimes having it up 2 weeks before PIR).

As far as the extra room for Navy Lodge in your SR's name, I don't see why not.  Just call back and tell them you will need 2 rooms rather than one.

One other question, I made a reservation at the Navy Lodge using my SR's name, can another reservation be made using his name for my daughter and her boyfriend? I would love for them to stay at the Navy Lodge along with us, if not, they're looking into the Quality Inn.

Also, if were taking the shuttle do we still need to register to get the gate pass or is that just if you're driving your vehicle in to RTC?
