Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by proudofmyson on September 30, 2013 at 2:19pm: There's 4 people in my family, excluding my SR. Either mom or dad will have miss pir as the children are minors. After liberty can all of us go back on base to buy his picture and whatever else he needs?

I hate that there's only 3 guests.

If you hear from your SR, ask what training week/day your SR is on that day and mark it on your calendar. Remember, they only count training days M-F. BattleStations is usually at 6-5. Could be earlier for push divisions.

Yesterday I took my little kids to the movies and I made the poor things sit in the back near the aisle "just in case". My poor family has become accustomed to my neurotic navy mom behavior!!!

Hope that "extras" still will go to GL and meet up with your new sailors after PIR is over and enjoy Liberty with them!

Comment by Addison's Mom (Ship 09 Div. 417) on September 30, 2013 at 11:49am: KEB my SR is in the same ship and div. and said he was getting a call today as well as his call yesterday. I only talked to him for about five minutes yesterday because the week before his dad only got a 30 second phone call and I got about a 25 minute phone. Being the fair person that I am, I told him to call his dad and talk for a while. Addison said " Ok ma, that's cool because then tomorrow I will give you all of my phone time".... Here's hoping I get a talk to my boy again today! :)
