OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

This group reads like a book!!  Loving all your stories and am especially amused by one mom's attempt to 'fatten" her son up so MEPS may have a problem.  :)

When I get out of my car to pump my own gas, I move my purse off the passenger seat and put it on the floor of the driver's side AND I arm the car by locking the door with my alarm remote.  No sneaking in on my car!!  I do that whether I am standing right next to the car or walking into the attached convenience market.

As for Palmetto bugs, they are called Cockroaches in California!!  Rather slow and easy to step on.  If if see a roach, they are a dead roach!!  I spray all around the perimeter of my home with the Ortho Home Defense, the garage door entries and up the wall about 3 feet on either side of each door,  all around the vents on the outside, every entry across the entry (don't have the doormat right up against the entry--leave a gap where you have sprayed and up the vertical ledge leading to your threshhold.  When the bug steps on the sprayed area, it kills them.  Also do the door from the garage to the house--put a nice 4" barrier there too.  I then re-spray in about 6 weeks.   Have noticed alot less bugs outside too this year!!

Mommy Lisa I understand exactly what u are talking about. My daughter went tone year of college came home in May to go to school here. She chose a school way more than I was willing to spend and did not want to go the Community College as I suggested. She went shopping one day saw a Air Force recruiter talked the recruiter. Recruiter told her to stop by on Monday, she gets there no one to be found, this happened twice, then the Navy recruiter was there and they talked to her, took her that same day to take the test, she scored really high by the end othe week she had signed. I was not for her going, but I always told her that she is capable of making her life decisions. I just want to support her and she is my only daughter. I have a sn who always knew he was going to the military, he will be leaving next year for the Army. Then the US Government will have the two people that I love more than myself. All I ask is that they are happy with their decisions.

The gas station stories are cracking me up. We too stopped in NJ on travel last summer and my husband got out to pump gas. We were so surprised that you can't pump your own gas in NJ.
