got a call today he sounded down but better after we talked a minute.I hope things get better for him I hate feeling helpless.I just wanna hold his hand and tell him it's okay.
Thank you all for the support! As far as putting my phone in my bra, I work in and ER with sensitive equipment such as MRI, X-Ray etc. Not a healthy place for my phone. LOL! Thank goodness the doctors I work with are very understanding, and most are military, or have been. Prayers for another call if I did miss it. There is nothing I can't endure that I would ever ask my son to endure! I will be fine, just want to know he is too ;-) Thank you again for all of the support!!!
...just know that if this was your SR calling, you couldn't have chatted long...usually these are just calls to get info and then they have to hang up. But of course, hearing that voice would have been wonderful, right?
SailorMom: Hmmmm....it is possible that you missed an "info" call from your SR. They cannot leave messages when they call for info (scripted with Navy personnel present). Occasionally, these calls are made from other Chicago area codes. Could have been a cell phone.
If your SR still needs the info, you will get another call soon. My son did this when he was at GL....called with no message....I freaked out until he called me a few days later. Turns out that the info he needed was resolved without me.
When I got my short call it was 847 area code. I have heard many others say this as well so I don't think you missed the call. I know it sounds crazy however I work in a court room so I put my phone on vibrate and place it in my bra area so I won't miss the call. LOL The steps a parent will take!
I didn't receive a letter today but I did get a 20 min call! She sounded good and is still very positive that joining the Navy was the right thing for her!
My son has been gone 3 1/2 weeks now, I have lived with my phone on me at all times. I am a paramedic at a very busy medical facility and laid my phone down for 2 minutes while answering a question from a patient. I missed a call! I live in Florida and the area code the call came from was (773) I looked it up and it said it is Chicago, IL. I have no family there, and whoever it was left no message. I am sick wondering if it was my son. I have heard that the area code where they are is (847) or the call comes in as pay phone or government. Please tell me I did not miss my boys call! Ughhh
No, there's not one, MJsMom: BUT....remember.....the sailors will be in their finests, so we recommend "business or dressy casual".
You will see a little of everything there....some look like they just walked off the beach (yes, true....and we were there in the "dead" of winter, snow on the ground....guy was in cut off jean shorts (strings hanging down) and a tank top with sandals. Wow....others look like they just returned from "clubbing." It is quite interesting to "people watch" before PIR starts! Even my then-25 yr old son who was with me was shocked at what one girl had on...and we were wondering when she was going to fall off of her very tall heels!
By the way, comfort is the name of the game too. Lots of walking that day...plus....bleacher seating, so keep that in mind!
is there a dress code for PIR
