OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

"no shuttle" not "not shuttle"  sorry

Comment by diannep on September 19, 2012 at 8:23am

terracotta:  Closest hotel to RTC is probably Navy Lodge.  Good rates, kitchenettes available sometimes, free NEX pass for a smaller NEX, but not shuttle.  So you would need to drive to RTC (but only about 1.5 miles).

But all of the hotels are relatively close to RTC so it really isn't an issue.  Residence Inn, Courtyard Inn and Springhill Suites are all nice and have the shuttle.

Good morning all!

Thank you.  We are Retired Navy so we have ID to shop at NEX and do so often here in WA.  Thank you for the good information.  I really appreciate it.

FYI.......We booked a room at the Navy Lodge and did NOT put it in our recruits name. It didn't seem to come up in the discussion. Of course they knew what we were coming in for. The rate was $66.00 a night.

taracottagreen I believe the navy Lodge is the closest to the base. The Gateway Inn could be closer but I'm not sure which base it is on. you have to have military ID to stay at the Gateway Inn but you can stay at the Navy Lodge by putting the room in your recruits name.

Thanks Jomomma :-)

Lala, I'll be praying for him.  ((hugs))

taracottagreen, most of the hotels are all pretty much within the same area and not far from RTC at all.  I would say, probably 10 minutes at the most.  The shuttle will not necessarily get you there sooner, but some do leave at 6:30a.m..  The shuttle driver's do make the drive to RTC all the time so some of them can manage to get around the line of cars waiting to get in pretty easily.

I would book a hotel for the night just in case, since you don't know when he is leaving.  You can always cancel it if needed without a penalty or fee, up to 24 hours before the date.

Comment by JoMomma on September 18, 2012 at 9:40pm

We are sending prayers your way.

You are very welcome Sonya :-)

I hope everyone has had a good day.

My great nephew, Jordan who is only 5 years old, is in the hospital with encephalitis. Please keep him in your prayers. They caught it early and that is a good thing. Hoping he will be good as new very soon. He was at my house for dinner Sunday night and seemed perfectly healthy. It can come on so quickly and he is an absolute sweetheart  :-) We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

Okay I hag a few questions 1.Does anyone know the closest hotel to where PIR is and also 2.Should I reserve hotel for the night after even if he may end up being grad and go just in case?? And 3.I saw someone say take a shuttle and you get on base faster how does that work?
