OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Sonya:  We hear good things about Navy Lodge.  Some of the N4Moms veterans have stayed there.  It is close to RTC....no PIR shuttle, but a close drive.  If you request, you could get a room with a kitchenette if available.  Room rates are very reasonable.  Plus they give you a pass to one of the smaller NEXes where you can shop without your sailor (usually the sailor has to be present with you when shopping in the NEXes).

Other good hotels are Residence Inn Waukegan, Springhill Suites, and Courtyard Inn.  All of those have the PIR shuttle and Residence is pet friendly.  These hotels are very close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR.

We booked our reservation at the Navy Lodge.  I hope this is a good place to stay for PIR.  I wanted to be as close to my son as possible.  They were very friendly.

yay! thanks, lala.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on September 18, 2012 at 2:17pm

Claudia, you don't have to wait to book the hotel. If you have a debit card they will hold the room with your card but won't charge your card until you check in and at that time you can pay with cash if you prefer. I know that is how it worked at the Navy lodge and I have heard pretty much all the hotels there work the same way. They don't charge a cancellation fee either if you have to cancel or change your reservations as long as you call and let them know. Most allow you to cancel right up to the day you arrive with no fee. So you could definitely go ahead and book your room :-)

before my husband left**

Comment by Claudia (bremerton, washington) on September 18, 2012 at 12:18pm

unfortunatley no. my husband and i had savings for his pir but a few days before my mom went into the hospital and still is in ICU so i had to use that money to pay some of her bills. I am getting some back pay from my husband's former job next month which will be sufficient enough to pay for the trip but i have to wait for it. my fear is that i will not be able to find a hotel room, mainly because there are always flights that i can jump on. i am sure everything will work out but i just have to wait, and that's what makes me anxious.

That is probably what we will do too. Do you know where you will be staying yet?
