I am a member of several closed facebook groups, probably more than 10. Only one of those group asked any information about me or my sailor before they allowed me to join. I have a couple of closed groups that I started and when someone asks to join you have no way of knowing who they really are, where they are from, or what their intentions are. If they have their setting set to private you can't see any of their info. Don't get me wrong, I like facebook and I spend a lot of time there helping out just like I do on this site but I will tell you people on there share way too much information. We are by nature very trusting and none of us really think anything bad is going to happen. But in today's world you just never know for sure. I know facebook uses real names as screen names but I have seen way too much information shared and sometimes it scares me. I have told people on there before that they need to be careful what they post and to not give out personal info on them or their Sailors. I am surprised that the Military has not put a ban on all social media sites for the service members. No matter where you are you should always practice OPSEC rules. Those rules are not in place to make it hard for us. They are there to make sure our Sailors come home to us! So just be careful :-)
@ellen, I do believe they are on here also....great bunch of people on here too. I do believe most of them are on both...
I understand that Sonya 100%. I don't know what to say on the form letter it has been awhile and you probably should have received it by now. It may be taking longer for the 951 division to send them out. You can ask your son in one of your letters to him what the password for the parking pass is.
There is a great bunch of people here too spontino, perhaps those on FB would also like to join this group.
My son left Sept.4
Thank you, I am just feeling down today and missing him.
Sonya, the form letter can take three weeks to get to you. Generally it happens when your SR is in the last couple of divisions for the PIR date. The last two brother divisions, sometimes get put on hold while waiting for the last division in a TG to fill before they start training. The letter won't get sent until they have moved from hold.
It was 22 days before I received the form letter from my son. I didn't have any luck getting an address from the recruiter either, even he couldn't find the information. I joked with him about the Navy having my son for three weeks and somewhere between the bus from the airport to the RTC they lost him.
Like spontino said, early calls from the SRs is unusual, some get calls about the third week, and others never get calls until after BS.
The area code is 847, but you may also see a Gov't call or a payphone call on your caller ID.
taracottagreen, the PIR ribbons are to wear to PIR to show your pride and support for your Sailor. They are also a good way to recognize others from the Same division and they make a wonderful keepsake. You can click on my name and send me a friend request for more info or send me an email to uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com and I will send you a link to my website to place an order if you like :-)
My son called yesterday late afternoon, but I missed it….he left a nice message though so at least i got to hear his voice, he is in Division 352.
PIR ribbons?
@ Sonya, I did receive the form letter however no calls. The divisions that have called so soon is very unusual, they are lucky!! My last go around of this, I didn't get a call til about 3 weeks...so hang in there, what day did your child go?
