OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

It seems like everyone on this site is having regular contact with their SR.  I have not even received the form letter.  Anyone else not received the form letter or a call?

terracottagreen:  All of the hotels have very liberal cancellation policies, usually up to the day before arrival or day of arrival.  No problem with cancellations if necessary.

Good morning all!

About phone calls. Phone calls are for needing additional information for something, security clearance , or a privilege they have earned. There is never a guarantee that you will receive a phone call, nor is there a set time that you may get one.

You should get the "I am here" call when they get to the RTC, you may get the "I am still alive" call about half way through, and you will most likely get the "I am a Sailor" call after BS.

If you have received another phone call excellent, they don't always happen. You may even get a letter from them telling you they earned a call and will be calling on  a specific day, and never get that call. Not all divisions get phone calls, not all SRs get phone calls. They can be taken away as fast as they are given for lots of reasons.

In BC my son earned three calls, he only got to make one of them. The call I did get was suppose to have been an hour, it was 2 1/2 minutes long because others abused the privilege and took it away for everyone else. The other two were never given to him, again because either the entire division did or didn't do something, or someone else did.

Best advice I can give you is, look forward to a phone call at anytime, but never expect one. Be prepared, keep your phone with you ALL THE TIME even running out to the mailbox, or during that quick bathroom break.Savor every second you get to talk to them, and when they say they have to hang up they have to hang up.

At the Navy Lodge, you can cancel up to 6 hours prior to arrival without a cancellation fee.

Has anyone received a call from their son or daughter in DIV. 352?

Awesome news Janet :-) Definitely book the hotel now. Most of the hotels there don't charge a cancellation fee and they allow you to cancel your room up to the day you arrive with no charges or fees. Just call the hotel direct and ask for the PIR rate. Navy Lodge was only $65 a night and you can get a kitchenette for the same price if you book early enough. They don't have a shuttle and you have to book the room in your recruits name. they will also give you a shopping pass to shop at the NEX just down the street. normally you would have to have military ID or your Sailor with you to shop there. It is a decent place with comfortable beds but no shuttle. For flights I would look at deal from Southwest and go directly to their website for the best deals. Try flying into Milwaukee. It is a few miles further than O'hare but the traffic isn't nearly as bad so it takes less time. Southwest also doesn't charge a fee if you have to change your flight and I believe they have a checked bag for free where most airlines charge $50 for a checked bag. If your recruit is staying in Great Lakes then definitely plan to stay the whole weekend if you can. If not then try to stay as long as you can just in case your Sailors flight is late Saturday or even on Sunday. Congrats on the call :-)

Hi Janet,

I am bouncing back and forth between here and the PIR 11/2 Facebook group.  We booked at the Navy Lodge.  Many have posted that the places they wanted to stay at were already booked so I would suggest that you book your room ASAP.  If you join the PIR group on N4M, they have many suggestions for places to stay.  Also, you can get free calling cards from callforrecruits.org.  Glad to hear that you heard from your SR.  I haven't received any calls and am still waiting for the form letter.  My son left for boot camp on 9/6 and is in Ship 12, Div. 352.
