msomodara:  We have heard good things about Homewood Suites.  In fact, someone just stayed there last week.  So I think you'll be happy!  You may want to ask if they have the PIR shuttle leaving from there (outside service that they hire).  Unless you plan to drive to PIR...then it doesn't matter!

I so agree with what Lala's daughter said below.  It is heartbreaking to see SRs miss their PIR because of a missed run, etc.  So many think that they can get in shape when they arrive...so much better to arrive in shape.  My son had 10 mos in DEP and ran 4-5 days a week during that time.  Thankfully, he had no problem with his run, but had he not done this, I'm sure he would have.

As far as the memory work, I know he did some of it beforehand...but have a feeling he didn't do it all!  And he had plenty of time to do it!  Grrrrrr....but he's a sailor now, so we are moving forward!  :-)

I am sure nothing compares to being there yourself. My daughter told me that if there was any advice at all that she could offer those who are still in DEP is to prepare physically by getting in shape and do everything you can to be able to pass the physical requirements before you go and to get the Blue Jacket Manuel and memorize all the stuff you have to know. Boot Camp is a lot less stressful if you are a little more prepared when you arrive.

My son's letter said "I can do this". Of course his older brother prepped him, but to be there compared to hearing stories is a big difference.

Wow this group is really growing.

It is so good to see you guys are already getting not just the box but the form letters as well. It just makes you feel so much better when you get that conformation and PIR date.

I know this journey is hard but for me it was kind of a relief. Simply because I knew where she was and I knew she was in good hands. Before she left she had been in college for 2 years and I never knew where she was, especially at night. While in boot camp I didn't have to worry about car accidents and party's lol. So I was good with it :-)

DIVISION 366 Yeah!!  I am so excited I hope we get to meet. How long are yall staying I called and booked my room today and they are filling up fast at hotel Indigo. I wanted more room and they didn't have it so I had to move to Home wood Suite which was 149.00 per night.

skyler...i've been scouring this site since about a week before he left for BC.  i was able to tell him all sorts of details about what to expect that helped settle his nerves...and mine.  i'm sure i'll continue to be on here through his navy career as i don't like surprises either.  i love the perspective of mom's that have been through this... thank God for technology.  i was able to speak to him live for the first call saying "i'm here"...but i wished i could have recorded it for those days i need a voice fix.

Skyler:  Welcome!  Great to see you on here to help out!  How is your sailor doing?

And...I loved your analogy...this experience certainly is a bit like Mr Toad's Wild Ride!  HA!
