Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I am super excited about this PIR group. If you are in the facebook group you probably already read this on that page. But in case you are not in that group or don't do facebook I and (3 other facebook PIR admins) will be in Great Lakes the week of your PIR and we will be at your meet and greet. We are even making a basket for the raffle. We are so excited to meet you all at the meet and greet. If you have a recruit who will have a PIR on Nov 7th and your family cannot be there for PIR please let me know. We will be happy to adopt your sailor and take them out for a great steak dinner after PIR :)

RTC has now posted the divisions for this PIR group.....353-362 and 952.....11 divisions which means 4 guests per sailor allowed at PIR.

Hi Everyone!

I just put up my "PERTINENT PIR TIPS!" up in the Discussion Forum.  Please check it out for any tips you can use for your own PIR~~  My Sailor daughter wanted to get her eyebrows done too, so there is a suggestion for where I took her up there~~

ChompersMom:  So very sorry.  Is this an condition that he disclosed to the recruiter and got a waiver for?  I ask because so many times on this site I have seen ladies post that their SR disclosed a medical condition to the recruiter, only to be told that it would be no problem....and of course, it was a problem when they got to Bootcamp and most are then discharged since they didn't get a waiver for the condition (meaning so many times it is about "numbers" for the recruiters at the expense of disappointed SRs.....sad).  I agree with CatMom.....your SR needs to sign for permission for you to talk to the "powers that be" to be more info.  Only your SR can do this.  You can do nothing unless this happens, and even then, I hear it is hard for parents to get lots of info.  The meeting with Legal is important....he can choose to stay and fight this diagnosis, that is his choice, but it could be months of fighting, and it is quite depressing for those SRs fighting their diagnosis since they have no training, nothing to do up there, and depression can be a problem. Others opt to be discharged, but with the code of being able to re enlist later if the condition can be corrected and a waiver obtained to re enlist.  Although I have seen some on here come back after being discharged, it is not too often that happens.  The Navy is overmanned so they can be very picky.  I pray that your SR picks what is best for him....as far as when he would get home if he is discharged and will not stay and fight it, it can take a few weeks for him to get out.  The process is not too quick.  You cannot request his medical records, but HE can and should. 

Yes, he will be on his own once he is discharged for insurance and job (unless you can add him, like CatMom said, on the insurance).  He has no Navy benefits that carry over after his discharge like this.  His insurance stops on the day he is discharged.  They will pay for his way home, but usually they find the cheapest way to send them home.  Families who live close enough have the option of taking them home once discharged.  They are sent home in their Navy sweats, I believe.  They have no uniforms that they can keep. 

There is a group on here called Ship 5 (formerly 17) that will have lots of info for you.  Just put it in the search bar on GROUPS tab.  Ask questions there as there should be some ladies on there who have gone through this who can help you.

Again, I am so sorry....but have to believe that the Lord has a better plan for your SR.  It is just so painful for him and you to go through this, I know.  Prayers for all of you.  You sound like a wonderful supportive mom, which he so will appreciate right now!  If you speak to him again, please make sure to ask him to sign what he needs to so you can get info yourself.

Chompermom,

Do you have a Medical Power of Attorney signed by him that he has given you authority to be in contact with the Navy regarding this situation?  If he is 18 and over, the Navy generally deals with him and unfortunately, not the parent.   He should meet with Legal to see if he can get another medical evaluation on his back. I do wish our young people could take a little more time to explain what's going on with their parents.  Hope the recruiter can get back to you with specifics.  Is your son under 19 or 21 and can still be under your insurance?

Prayers for your son that he can receive another evaluation and you can get some clear answers~~
