lol, I totally understand. My husband just mentioned in his letters that a) it made him sad when he didn't get any mail and b) any little piece of home was helping him get through those first couple of weeks, so I thought it would be better to just send a letter every day in the hopes that it would mean he would be getting constant mail and reminders of home. Plus, it is a good way for our kids to cope, drawing him pictures about their day. But like ProudNavyMom said, it is all up to your preference!
I've written every single day since he left...his first week he probably got a boatload of letters from me, since I had to hold them till I got the form letter (I numbered all the envelopes) but now...I've just been sending out every day or every other. Hopefully he can keep track LOL. I've written SO much. I never realized I had this much to say. Besides, I think him getting 3-4 letters every other day from me will hold him off on days he may not get a letter. I hope...
boca I know what you mean. I write everyday. Everytime they have a mail call I want her to have a piece of mail. but that is a good idea, i dont know i guess it is preference. Also, it helps me to get some things off my mind at times. i just can not wait til BC is over! :o)
karens, I just checked. My son went in 7/3 (tuesday) and his first call to us was on 7/25(wednesday) so it was three weeks. If it holds true for this group, perhaps we will get calls this week although I don't know if Luke will call me or one of his buddies. Here's hoping the calls come this week. Remember, write yourself a note about what you want to ask him because in the excitement of getting the call, you will forget something.
karens, they will always be our babies so you have the right to feel sorry for yourself if you are in the mood to. I was there myself when I didn't get a letter when everyone else was. I sent Luke a questionaire with a self addressed stamped envelope to remind him to write and then when I got home there was his letter waiting for me. What surprised me the most was that MY son would send a short letter but Luke sent me a 2 page letter addressed to Momma M***. haha. I should go back and look to see when we got our first call. I think it was around week three but I can't remember (old age setting in). I'll go check.
My one friend who's bf just graduated said her bf sent her letters a few times a week....he told her that after TAPS, the RDCs weren't around to tell them what to do, so he would write to her...I suppose others did the same? She said he sometimes sent mail out after Sunday too. Not sure if he suddenly gained that privilage, but it sure would be nice to get that....
Oh, ok, I guess that is why I was confused. I have been sending him a letter every day, because it said on the website that they can get mail Monday through Friday, and I just wanted to try my best to make sure that he was getting something at as many mail calls as possible :)
Yep, sent stamps, but the letter I just sent him I included a self addressed stamped envelope, hope he gets the hint. I know how busy they are and know if there was a problem I would have been told, just had myself in the mind frame that by week three I would hear from him. Know he's a big boy, but he is still my baby. Just feeling sorry for myself, time to suck it up and be a big girl and wait.
BTW...proof that snail mail is weird - I live in Pennsylvania and it took me up until Thursday to get his letters! And i live relatively close...so who knows.
karens, did he take stamps? The Navy provides paper and envelopes but I don't know if they supply the stamps. I know my son didn't mail his letters one week because he had run out of stamps and didn't get a chance to get to the NEX to buy more. I send extras to Luke when I can so that he can't use the excuse of no stamps for a reason not to write! He also may have had watch or some other duty when they were able to write and he missed his chance. I hope you get something tomorrow but if you don't you should get something on Thursday or Friday if he was able to write this past Sunday. I get my letters on Thursdays.
