For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by ellen0502 on October 3, 2015 at 6:18pm: Texasmom, Who actually attends is really going to be up to your recruit, but do let him know who is coming and who you "think" should go to PIR. :)

As for the Chapel to watch the livestream...the chapel is usually available, but can be denied for a multitude if reason. Also, you are escorted from the drill hall to the chapel and there you must remain, whether the livestream is working or not. After the ceremony you are escoted off base, so you won't see your Sailor any faster really. Food and drink is not allowed in the chapel, so... The RTC also requests that extra guests remain at the hotel even though it will probably be available.

We recommend you stay at the hotel to watch the livestream, most of them have a public viewing somewhere in their hotel, and the Navy Lodge shows it in their lobby.

Sounds much better to me to be able to watch the ceremony, have a little coffee, or juice, maybe some breakfast, chat with other families waiting etc., than be stuck in the chapel.

It's just a few short minutes after PIR before you will see your Sailor and get that hug even when not attending. :)

Comment by me-to-mi on October 3, 2015 at 6:12pm: Got a call today from son in Div 003. So so so good to hear his voice. I didn't cry on the phone. Tried to be upbeat and strong for him, but he sounded good. Said several kids getting wisdom teeth out. Talked about 30 minutes and definitely encouraged letter writing every day. Said it makes a huge difference and something to look forward to.

Do u know if it is most commonly utilized, and by lots of folks, overflow of guests? When my SR CX called he was telling me bout a place where extra guests can watch from. Of course if read the info bout chapel... But the input hed gotten at bootcamp was that extras can watch from another building live stream. So is it a regular, pretty reliable option.

So do you not think it would be too crazy for me, the mom, to watch with my older son , live stream, and let the other family members see ceremony!? I feel it wud be a sacrifice, but wud do to have my SR's other family members come to pir. I feel uncomfortable having them make the trip, and them not be able to be in ceremony. Do you think its a kind gesture, or weird for me to not attend actual ceremony.

Comment by ellen0502 on October 3, 2015 at 4:03pm: Texasmom, There is no way to have more than the four guests attend PIR. That is a strict rule from the RTC. I know it isn't the best answer, but it is what it is.

Remember PIR is only a couple hours of the day, and after is when you really get to see your Sailor. Watching it on the livestream at the hotel with others who are not in attendance can also be just as exciting.

Comment by Lisa on October 3, 2015 at 3:08pm: Hi lonesome last Saturday my husband and I didn't take showers either waiting for the call and our daughter finally called us at 5:07 PST. So don't loose hope, it could still happen.
