OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Classycalicat:  Yes, the homesickness is hard for them....they are cut off from everything that was comforting to them....just giving up the cellphone is HUGE for that generation, right?  But they will bond together beautifully as a team....and make lifetime friends!  You will see a new even BETTER man or woman at PIR!  It is amazing!

Hello Ladies!

My son is Ship 03 Div 002

kms2372 & Only Son Navy Bound &  Love her . Sounds like we are all " In the same boat" so to speak!

Got my form letter Sept 24. & Got my first teary call yesterday a.m. early. So good to hear his voice!  He is in the same group of friends that he swore in with, so that is encouraging. Encouraging him to do well. Both Grandfathers were Navy & we have many family members that are / were Navy.

He's never been away from home & hearing that he is homesick makes me sad.......

Has anyone made plans to PIR yet?

Love Her - wishing your daughter a speed recovery.

Nicole:  They are usually allowed to write to you about 2 weeks after arrival.  Some may not because they just don't have the time....they can only write on Sundays/mail out on Mondays so if they don't get it written before then, it waits another week!  Some manage to write under the "red lights" after lights out, but most are too tired and sleep!  Hope your letter will come soon!  The 2 week delay in the mail is so that the Recruit Mail Petty Officer can be trained.

Most of the SRs get sick early on in Bootcamp....too many vaccinations at one time,  lowering immunity temporarily?  I think that is a large part of it, along with being side by side with so many in a confined space!  They get over it and Medical is there if they need them!  The RDCs are good about giving them some time to rest if needed.
