N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Alex'sMom:  There can be as few as 4-5 divisions in a PIR group (very rare) or as many as 14 (also very rare).  The average number is normally around 9-11 divisions in a PIR group.  We are waiting to see how many are in this one.  Looks like 10 so far, but if you are in this one, it would be at least 12.  Soon, RTC will post the division numbers for this PIR group and then we will know for sure!

Here is a link to tell you what they do in Bootcamp:

http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433

Brother divisions train together, so your SR will know SRs in both divisions.  His brother division is 012.    Take a look at the PAGES section to the right and above on this page for lots of info!

The sailors will not know their confirmed flights until right before PIR, so you can't wait for that info before booking your own flights.

Comment by diannep on September 29, 2015 at 8:01pm

Yes you are, Nicole!  Welcome!

No, there is no Leave between Bootcamp and A School.  He will head there most likely the day after PIR---they are bussed there later on PIR night as a group to wait for flights..  Sometimes they don't leave until Sunday, but most leave Sat.  Depends on flight availability.  So book your own return later on Sunday if possible so you won't miss time with your sailor if lucky enough to not leave until Sunday.  You can meet him at the airport, and with ID, get an airlines gate pass and wait until he departs.

If you book your flights on Southwest Airlines, there is no change fee if your plans change, such as if a SR is delayed.  2 bags check for free and they "throw in" a rental car discount code.  Check out fares into Milwaukee WI (45 min drive to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ drive to GL depending on traffic).  The sailors will be flying from the 2 Chicago airports....Midway and OHare.

The recruiters know what A Schools go with what jobs.  That is why your recruiter knew where your sailor will be attending A School.

Another question sorry! Am I in the right group? Lol! My son graduates on 11/13 ship 04 division 008.

OK need some help! Trying to finalize our graduation plans/trip. But not sure of when to plan to come home. My son was told by his recruiter he would go to A school in Florida but how did he already know this and if so will he get a leave and come home or go straight from bc to florida? Or do I need to contact his recruiter?
Comment by Alex'sMom on September 29, 2015 at 7:35pm

Okay, diannep, I'm confused on how all this works. How is bootcamp set up?

Comment by diannep on September 29, 2015 at 7:30pm

Alex'sMom:  Div 009/010 is in this group, so we shall see if 011/012 is also.  This group starts with 001/002.  I put the divisions together because they are brother divisions and train together.

Comment by Alex'sMom on September 29, 2015 at 7:21pm

Still no letter so I called his recruiter. Looks like my son is Ship 03 Div 011. He was not sure on the PIR date. We are out of town right now and I'm betting once he lost his phone there went the new address. The recruiter said his PIR would be either 11/13 or 11/20 but that he could not tell on the computer... Oh well, at least I can write him and attach losts of post-it notes with the address inside his letter lol

Alex'sMom:  Those flying out will most likely only have PIR Day with you until about 8 pm.  They return to RTC and bus later that night to the airports....You can meet them there in the wee hours of the morning and wait with them.  Some may fly out at around 6 a.m. and others not until later in the afternoon, with lots in between.  Take ID so you can get the airlines gate pass and wait at the gate until they depart .

However, sometimes some sailors may not fly until Sunday (which means they would have Liberty with you on Sat. too) so plan your return for Sunday or later just in case!  Most will ship on Sat. though.
