While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Prayers for a full recovery from the burns for your SR's friend and for the loss of the other person and his/her family. Not sure if your SR also knew who that other person was too. While what's done is done, I hope your daughter will realize that even though the good friend will be okay, there was still another person who lost their life.
My Sailor daughter told us she only wanted to know if one of us--her parents, her 2 sisters, or uncle who lives with us--passed away. Anyone else could wait till after PIR.
In the age of information, young people think others want to know something ASAP. It's not so when one needs intense focus to have to learn to alot in a relatively short time. I hope you can let your daughter know that while she probably ended the info on a good note, she can save info on their circle of friends at PIR when she sees him again. And please realize that she just didn't know that sharing distressing information can affect someone in strong way. Young people don't look at things the same way us adults do. Hope you and your daughter can get past this and be on good terms again. She is your child just like her SR brother~~
Can I share something with you?? I have 2 younger daughters and I think I really focused my attention so much on missing my Sailor daughter at the time. Yea, she left to strike out on her own, but she left her whole family, not just Mom. Your daughter is probably missing him more that she is showing. Make sure you are focusing attention on her and any other children you may have too~~

Nancy: I should say....your daughter had the right intentions, it sounds like, telling him because the friend will be fine. She may have felt he would have heard from another friend in a more scary way. Yes, you are going to be protective to help your SR focus just on Bootcamp, so that is totally understandable. But I actually understand why your daughter did this, I think. But maybe she should have discussed it with you first?
However, during Bootcamp, none of us ladies are responsible for our bizarre emotions! HA! There is no rhyme or reason except that we love our SRS/sailors!

NancyM: I'm so very sorry....what a brave friend your SR has! So glad he will be fine.
I would write a nice letter to your SR since your daughter already told him. Assure him that hix friend was such a hero and that he will be fine. I know your SR is so proud of his friend, but so very sad for the one he couldn't save. God Bless this friend for putting himself in danger to save someone else! Has he considered joining the military? Our country could use men like him! :-)

Looking for opinions... In the wee hours of Thursday am, a good friend of my SR was involved in a motor vehicle accident, he was trying to free a friend of his from a burning vehicle... he was not successful unfortunately and wound up being airlifted to a burn center himself for smoke inhalation and possible burns to his respiratory tract. Fortunately and with God's grace he is doing very well and is going home today. I did not want this information given to my SR. Even though his friend is okay I felt it was something he did not need to think about...however my daughter told him anyway, because the friend is going to be fine. I'm angry with her and she thinks I'm going overboard (as it were). Am I being over protective? I just want him to focus on doing his being and things he can work on..

littleman: You can download the gate pass (only needed if you are driving on the base for PIR....riding a shuttle, you don't need it) within 11 days of PIR. So there is time. When he calls, just ask him the password. He should know it. If not, take a shuttle to PIR. Or....drive and park at the train station which is about 1/4 mile past RTC. So no worries!
Laura: They will threaten the SRs with everything to motivate them. They will threaten that a whole division will be setback in training...that doesn't happen, but individuals will be setback if necessary. Tell him to keep his chin up, try hard, and know things will get better as he gets closer to PIR. Keep encouraging him that he can do this...A School is not like Bootcamp (much better) and tell him that better days are coming!

13 / 007 - We have been watching YouTube videos about Navy Training. That has been a big help to me, just to see what he is doing and have an idea what it looks like. I know they must "gloss" over the tough parts, but I found the videos comforting. Weird but true.
