ggMom,

So sorry to hear you missed the call, but TJ is right to focus that your SR is doing well!

We try to advise that if your SR only knows your home phone to have the call forwarded when you leave the house for anywhere.  Or you can write and ask him to please call you or your hubby's cell phone, then to watch out for "847", :"Pay Phone", "Government" or "Waukegan, IL" on the caller id.  But we also say to answer all unfamiliar calls when you have a loved onei in Boot Camp.  If a solicitor, just politely say "No, thank you."

Be prepared at all times to receive a call becaue they call during the week too~~

gg Mom, sorry to hear you missed your SR's call.  Sending ((((Hugs)))) your way. Try to focus on knowing he is doing well. I understand the hurt of missing a call as I missed my son's safe arrival call. Not sure if you know about forwarding your home phone to your cell phone or vise versa, I believe someone posted it earlier either here or on the PIR 11/14/14 Facebook page. Enter *72 and your 10 digit number then to cancel press *73. After doing it you may want to check to make sure it did forward. I've started doing this to hopefully prevent missing anymore calls. I'm sure pay phones are foreign to this generation of recruits. Take care.

I MISSED IT!  My SR Ship 13 Div007 called last night and we were all not home!  He left a message with tears that he missed home but he was doing well.  He had a hard time figuring out the payphone, which I don't think he has ever used in his 19 years.  Ugh.  I can barely type through my tears.

Good Morning!

A suggestion on mailing pictures:  Consider scanning onto the back of your letters or a separate sheet of paper.  It won't make the letters thick which makes them have to open them in front of the RDCs.  Also, they have limited storage space to keep pictures so the more you can copy on a sheet of paper, the more they can get with little storage space!

True.  Thanksgiving week PIR is always on that Wed.

Comment by littleman14 on October 4, 2014 at 10:56pm

If anyone knows someone that has a PIR Thanksgiving weekend. I was told they graduate the Wednesday before. My SR is in DIV 6 and that was a concern at first.

Yay! I finally spoke with my son today. Miss his call last weekend. I am so glad to see there are other moms going thru the same experience. Ship 11 Div. 3.  Now I need to start doing my homework and start learning all of the Navy lingo.
