Maggie:  Hmmmm....strange that the form letter brochure doesn't include Navy Lodge, but maybe because it is military housing.  Normally, you could not stay there without your own military ID, but they make exceptions for those with  graduating sailors and you stay there courtesy of your sailor's military ID---did you book in your SR's name?  If not, they will change that for you when you check in.  If you return to Great Lakes to visit him in A School, I don't believe you can stay there unless you have your own ID. Can you check with them when you are there and post that info here?  We would like to know for future groups.   Thanks!

Also, on your "extra" guest, they can either watch at Navy Lodge, which is what RTC prefers extras to do for space allocation purposes---stay off-base and watch at the hotels....or....that person may be able to watch the Livestream in the base Chapel.  There is no way that person will be allowed in the PIR Hall for the graduation ceremony....but they can meet up with you when it is over and hug your sailor.  They clear the Hall in about 10 min after PIR concludes.

As far as sleeping in on Fri a little, we suggest that all plan to be at RTC between 6:30 (gates open then) and 7 a.m. even though it doesn't start until 9.  There will be pre-ceremony videos shown, etc....but more importantly, the division sections fill quickly, especially the "choice" seats like the top bleacher row where you can lean against the wall....and the bottom row.  We arrived at the base at 6:40 (took a shuttle) and were in the Hall a few minutes after 7.  There were already a good number of people there.   Choice seats were gone.  We would have gotten there a few minutes earlier if we had known that, but actually had decent seats in the middle of our section, halfway up.  Its up to you, but I would say go to bed early and get up early!  The hotels normally serve their free breakfast earlier on PIR Day so you all can get over there.

For those joining the FB groups, please stay on this one to so you have the best of both worlds!  Please remind the ladies on FB to check in here also.  If we can share info back and forth between the groups, we can make sure all info is accurate....thanks!

Good Morning!

We booked 2 rooms at the Navy Lodge  as they are very reasonable and the closest - want to sleep as long as possible Friday morning and have a close place to go while awaiting our son's check in process to A School. But it is very curious that that brochure that came with the form letter did not even mention the Navy Lodge. How would those not on this site even know of it? Odd. We may have a 5th family member with us. Will they be able to watch the live stream from the Navy Lodge or do they need to go to a specific location for the feed?

Gals,

Each division needs to train a Mail Petty Officer to sort and distribute the mail already there or coming in to the SRs.  Hopefully your SRs will get to write this Sunday and mail those letters on Monday, so you would be receiving their letters on Wednesday or Thursday as it takes an average of 2-3 days for the mail to arrive...

In the meantime, stay alert for their phone calls!!

yoliep623,

If the hotel you booked with the shuttle is the Ramada, you might want to check what the reviews are on it....

Sarge services all the hotels at $3.00 per person each way.  He is the one who hosts the Meet & Greet held the night before the PIR and he gives oodles of information and a free buffet dinner!  In fact all taxi services are supposed to charge the same rate, but be aware.  Only pay for one direction, not roundtrip up front as there is no guarantee you can even get the same shuttle back to your hotel.

The Navy Lodge just started a shuttle service to PIR for their guests for $2.00 roundtrip!!  A great deal!

Griffins mom- I recieved a call too last Saturday which was a very nice surprise. I'm wondering if he just felt like that would take place of a letter for a while lol. I'm sure they're just busy though and I'm sure he's just trying to stay focused. It's hard for us here at home though not to go crazy.

Chelsymom  My SR is ship 3 Div.. 6 .... Not sure where we are staying yet. As for a FB page not sure. if you start one I will join. As for guest,  only 4 guest per SR for PIR. They do live stream the graduation,  but it will have to be watched in your hotel room. PLEASE let me know if you get a letter. I am still waiting for the form letter.. It is lost in the mail. I pray our DIV. is OK and nothing went wrong ( got in trouble,) we seem to be the only ship/DIV that has not heard from our SR.

Has anyone with SRs from ship 14 div 002 received a letter yet? I have not recieved one and so have 5 other families with SRs in that division. Just curious. I'm sure my husband is just busy, and I know that they had inspections this past week so he may have been too busy preparing on Sunday? I don't know but I'm getting kind of anxious
