Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time to read the N4M's Community Guidelines (clickable link). Within it are links for OPSEC videos and info. Boot Camp is kind of training for us as well! Many are new to military life. We learn how to endure long periods of not seeing nor hearing from our loved one, we learn how to go through holidays, special occasions and birthdays w/o our loved one and we learn how important OPSEC is to not just our Recruits/Sailors safety but our countries.

Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended.

That being said...don't be afraid to post! Our PIR groups are meant to inform and support you! PLEASE don't stop posting about your Recruit and getting letters and calls and stuff like that. Just don't mention specifics. If something is really concerning you and you don't want to post publicly, you are free to friend any of us veteran/seasoned moms and ask privately.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on October 8, 2012 at 2:33pm: Lorie, If he said he will go to C-school then I am sure he will. I'm not sure where that would be and there may be different locations that he would go to depending on where he will be based.

It is pretty common for recruits to take the swim test more than once. They have to drop 10 feek and swim 50 yds using any stroke and then they have to do a prone float for 5 min without a PFD (personal flotation device) And my Sailor said the water was really cold and she was there in the summer lol. I would think that once they have done it one time and know more about what to expect it will not be hard to pass :-)
