For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME to PIR 11/16/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on October 8, 2012 at 9:26am: A-school and C-school are different. C-school is additional training for what job your Sailor will do. As an example Sailors who will be an AO go to A-school in Pensacola and learn what it takes to be an Aviation Ordnanceman. When they are finished they will have learned how to take care of ordnance on a ship and will likely work below deck once they get to their ship. If they choose to work with a squadron instead of the ship they will go to C-school for additional training to learn the specifics of what they will be doing with the squadron. C-school for AO is only a few weeks, not long at all and there is one in VA and one in CA. Once they learn their job they will then go to their first duty station/base. Choosing a squadron doesn't mean they won't be on a ship. My Sailor works with a squadron and her squadron is attached to the Harry S Truman. So anytime the Truman is deployed the squadron will most likely go with them. They work on the flight deck instead of below it :-)

If you know what their rate/job will be then we can tell you where A-school will be.
