How long does it take for mail to get to our SR's? If mine has a birthday, how early do I want to send out a card so that he gets it on time?
Thanks
@ Craig -
I really appreciate the humor and words of encouragement. He's going to be an ET (but they won't let him phone home...ironic, isn't it?) The check to the cell phone company comes out to around $536. I guess I forgot to mention that I have my bachelors in applied math, a masters in math education, and am currently working on a second masters in applied math. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! (Newton's first law, I believe...) :)
Thanks Fire Team!!
Yea that is what I thought, but well in true mother fashion was hoping for more, lol. thank you for your input!
but I would much rather him home for Christmas which should be doable, then Thanksgiving, at least we will be able to call and talk to him by then!!
lizza - Sweetie...something doesn't look right. I have:
Ship 09 for Divisions 001-004
Ship 11 for Divisions 005 and 006.
Ship 02 for 901.
When did your recruit arrive at BC? It looks like you may have gotten information from the recruiter as far as her address. MAny times if has TMI or is incomplete. Can you post what they gave you BUT please do not post any part of your recruits name.
We can help you figure it out.
That being said ...here is a Blog post about Leave vs. Liberty by AntiM (former Navy). It is very good and explains the differences well.
A quickie...Liberty is regular time off during the "work week".
Leave is earned time offf and has to be requesed and approved in order to be taken. A "chit" is put in for it.
Recruits/Sailors earn 2.5 days of Leave a month so 30 a year. Your recruits will have earned 5 days of Leave when they graduate as Sailors.
My daughter is ship 14 uss Arizona..devision R 141..
Just to add to diannep's post about Thanksgiving. This is just a thought as far as them putting in for it once they arrive at their new command.
They will most likely get Thanksgiving off and probably Friday as well Liberty wise (the staff and Sailors have families after all :-)) But as far as allowing Leave...well, don't know that early on. Anything is possible.
My son was in Phase 1 Liberty ()had been there for a month and a half though)when Thanksgiving rolled around and he was given the opportunity of putting in for leave.
But with technically only three days there for your recruits just don't know.
We discussed him coming home as he had already been gone since March (he ahd changed A schools and "stated all over" so time extended) and was homesick :-( But we decided against it. He would be home n a few weeks and the cost of air fare and the though of traveling at Thanksgiving, the busiest time of the year, no way. He would spend most of his time traveling and it would be hurried and stressful! You would want them to get back Saturday becasue of the risk of delayed flights and such.
Now, for those that will live in driving difference, this is of course a different story. I had one sweet mom who lived nearby one school and she opened her door to the Sailors for a homecooked meal. You will see this happen all over the country! Plus, the bases do Thanksgiving for the servicememebrs. We went out one year to hubby's air base and served dinenr to the airmen who were on base and working (yes, those who remain on base may be given "watch" duties).
So, that is just a personal opinion above...The holidays will play out many ways for everyone.
We will be starting division discussion groups for brother divisions here sometime this week, as we have a better idea on all the division numbers. Brother divisions for this PIR will be at least divisions 001/002, 003/004, 005/006. They will be training together and friends will be made across the two divisions not just within their own division.
Just got the Form letter from my Sister is in Ship11 DIV006. Is anyone frm California with the same? and planning to go to PIR Nov16th?
Bootcamp questionnaires are located in the "pages" section above right, below the MEMBERS photo box.
The writing is NAVY PRINT and quite shocking to those who have SRs who normally have messy handwriting1 I know I was when I received my form letter!
No, sorry, GSDGirl. He won't be home for Thanksgiving. He will be shipped straight to A School. Some of the bases go into "Stand Down" over the Christmas holidays so sometimes the SRs get to come home then. Just depends.
