I have a feeling he may have misunderstood something about working at the recruiters office after bootcamp and before A-school. That is normally done after A-school and they can work up to 5 days and then those 5 days of leave won't count as leave. So they can be home for 10 days and only use 5 days leave by working with the recruiter for a few hours a day for 5 days. It is a great oportunity and most of the Sailors take advantage of it. But, I have never heard of them being able to do that before A-school. I hope everything works out for the good and I still have you all in my thoughts and prayers.
Mike'sMom: Unfortunately, we have heard of cases where the recruiters are not quite so "upfront" when sending records to bootcamp. Have heard comments in the past from some ladies: some recruiters were telling the SRs "don't mention that", etc. Others may take the info and act like they pass it along, but don't. Others are quite honest and complete with the info. Just depends on the recruiter.
Hoping that the longer there is no news for you right now...that is a good thing meaning he is progressing. It could just be a point of clarity that they have to confirm.
Try to stay positive....and pray!
Good Morning all!
Regarding the "Moment of Truth" -
We were hoping that he would be able to call last night for more information, but that didn't happen. He was very honest with his recruiter, and since he's slated for the Nuke program I would think those forms/background checks already happened. He also asked us to talk to his Recruiter about working in the Recruiter's office for about a week after BC before going to A school. We'll talk to him today, and maybe get more info about the medical records. We don't know for sure if he stood up for the "Moment of Truth". I didn't talk to him directly, I'm getting this info from my husband (who keeps reassuring me he's fine - but he's not obsessed with information like I am!)
I'm hoping it's a good sign that he mentioned doing something after BC. Would the Navy be up-front and tell him that there's a chance he'll be removed if they don't like his medical records?
He called to request this information yesterday (9/30) but went in on 9/18. I'm also hoping that because of the time gap that I'm overreacting. My husband said that he didn't sound like it was a huge deal, and gave us the name of a doctor on base to send info to.
Hopefully, I'll get more solid information today from the Recruiter - I'll post here to let you know what I find out.
We will be forming Division Discussions for you soon on this PIR group. That way you can connect up divisiona;ly as well.
BUT please stay on the MAIN WALL (here ) of this PIR group to ask questions of the veteran members and get support from them. With 70+ Divisions we simply do not always have the time to go through all of the discussions to look for questions and we would hate to miss any. :-)
The way these PIR groups work (or any GROUP on N4M') is that a DISCUSSION FORUM area may be added to a GROUP. So the DF is within the GROUP. It still belongs to this PIR group.
We will do this in a day or so. I am pretty sure about the number of Divisions but am hoping RTC posts them tomorrow.
MikesMom - It's not a good thing to stand up at the "Moment of Truth". All of that stuff should have been worked out prior to getting to boot camp. The "Moment of Truth" happens on the P-2 day.
Here is some info that you need to have ready the next time he calls:
- When was Ritilin last prescribed?
- When was it last filled?
- Is it documented in his medical record, by the doctor, saying he's off that drug also? By a person taking themselves off a drug themselves doesn't mean they are off the drug.
Write down all the above dates. You will need this and it needs to be very accurate. Remember, it only takes the Navy a push of the button to see anyone date for medical service or if a prescription was issued since most people have insurance and their was a co-pay paid. (ie they know exactly which date you went in for medical treatment). They can't get the medical record so easily because of the HIPAA rules, but they will still get them. It just takes them time.
They will now have him sign a form letting the military access his medical records. Normally, only the DEPers that are awaiting boot camp that also need Special Background Investigations (SBI) security clearance access have to sign that form (called a SF-86-2) saying the Navy can access his medical records. But because he stood up, now he will sign this form too.
Here is the form they sign:

01navymom - The day-per-day stuff is listed above in the discussion area. But here is a quick link to it.
It is my understanding that the moment of truth happens pretty early. Not too long after they arrive I beiieve and I am almost positive it is during processing days.
mike'sMom, I hope that it will all be okay. you both are in my thoughts and prayers.
Mike'sMom: Well, anything is possible as far as separation....hoping that since he has been off of the meds for 2 -2.5 years, it will be ok. The Moment of Truth is a hard thing. We have heard of SRs who were truthful to the recruiters about medical situations, but somehow these truths didn't get on their records going to bootcamp. That caused problems in bootcamp.
Praying that all will be ok for him....
The Moment of Truth? When does this happen? One more thing for us to worry about.

ConnieT I have seen several mom's posting yesterday and todat ship 09 div 003 got their form letter....Seems they were sent out later to me. so glad to finally meet some moms.
