lizza - What was your daughter asking? Just as FTLW said is usually they call if they have security types of questions. What is her rating (job)?
thelostairman - A ship is truly a barracks. They call them ships to get the newbies to use that term (ie I'm going back to the ship). Here is how it's broken down:
- The building/ship/barrack (lets say the USS Arizona Ship 14) has 3 floors
- Each floor has 4 division. (two facing the front of the building, 2 facing the back)
- A division is normally about 88 people.
- So you have 4 division per floor x 3 floors = 12 divisions per ship
- 12 divisions per building/barrack/ship x 88 sailors = 1056 total sailors per building.
- This is just a rough ballpark, other things can make that number different, ie attrition, the summer surge, or even a broke air conditioning system.
Here are some pictures of the barracks/ship. I might have lied just a little about 1/2 down (just to keep this tread fun).
The Galley (chow hall) is in the left building, the center is the Quarter Deck, and the right is the sleeping Compartments.
This is the overall picture of the sleeping compartment.
Here is the end of the building. On the end, right in the middle, is where your recruits will normally enter the building. If they are in a group of 10 or less they will enter the building through the Quarterdeck. There are two division per side, so 4 division per floor. There are 3 floors. So you have 4 x 3 = 12 divisions per ship. Lastly, even though you think they have windows, they don't. They are all frosted so the recruits can't see out. The only area that has clear window is the offices.
The rear view. The water is fun to play in when your done for the day. We toast marshmallow in the fire pit at night time.
The Chow hall: Usually four per table. It's off limits to blow out the candle on the table, unless your birthday. This is how you know the other recruits are having a birthday. Party hat are opinion. If you ask the RDC's nicely, they will actually sing Happy Birthday to you.
The Shower room: Luffa are available from the RDC, just ask, they will bring you one.
The overlook of the city of Chicago; The windy city. It's a breath taking view, especially when you are doing your push ups.
Me too Craig :-)
Woo-hoo TG-01.... I love seeing the clock start at one again....
Congrats to all of your future sailors!!!!
Well I wanted her to sit in a regular seat if possible because I did not want to have to sit alone due to just one of us can sit with her. Thats why I thought if I wheeled her in as far as I could get then just let her take her time walking to the seat. And she would have her own wheel chair.
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/900sdivisionsailors here is the site for 900's
For any of you whos SR in a division 900 group there is a site just for 900 families.
5 in the morning is very early. Do we need to notify someone if we have a wheel chair?? Could we wheel her in as far as we can and then let her walk to a seat? and leave the wheel chair in the back?? She can walk just no too far and for too long and she has oxygen but its a tiny tank looks like a pocket book.
You are very welcome, sabo! Your N4Moms veterans are listed at the top of this page...and we are here to help. There are others who drop in too, like Jodi, and offer their expertise as well. No question is too small or stupid to ask! Ask them all!
