WELCOME to PIR 11/16/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

My older son graduated from boot camp in 2001, I saved all his letters he send home, read them over today and the one constant request from him was to write. Have everyone write.  Seems to be way they look forward to everyday.

There are not actual tickets given out for PIR, the names your SR has listed are the ones currently on the "guest list". At some point, within the last two weeks of BC, your SR will have the opportunity to change the original list that he/she gave during processing. Extras will have to wait until those listed get in before they are allowed in.

If you do have extras coming (which we encourage you to bring all those wanting to come), just make sure your SR knows which ones need to be listed. For example you probably don't want you 14 year old child to be the one waiting alone, nor your 85 year old mother. Just make sure who is listed and who is waiting is a "group" that can manage on their own for a while, and find their way to you when they get inside.

We encourage you to bring those that want to come, even if they don't get into PIR (we have not heard of extras being turned away for a long time), they will still get to see them after PIR for the rest of the day, and if your SR is staying in GL for A School, you will most likely have the whole weekend.

If your SR is friends with someone who has only two coming they have sometimes put a friends family member on their list for PIR.

Hi All! My son left on Sept. 18th. Getting the box was awesome. No form letter yet though:(  Hopefully his PIR will be 11/16:)

@ berqquis - to the best of my knowledge, no, they can't use other's "tickets". What I read on the Great Lakes website was that each SR was guaranteed 4 spots, and that any others could wait at the visitor's center (or whatever it's called) to see if there is room for extras.  No guarantees, kind of like being on stand-by for an airplaine.

Could one of our "Veteran" moms confirm this?

My son left for BC on September 18th, he did make friends with a boy who is also 18 from Minooka, IL.  I met him as well at the Oath ceremony  I'm wondering if any of you are his mother and if he is in same div as my SR...

So happy to hear you actually received your letter Nise615.  So I guess we can actually plan for 11/16 PIR.  Thanks so much for sharing this info!!
