WELCOME to PIR 11/16/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@ Erika - he is in ship 09 div 001.  Even if they're not in the same BC group, they'll be going to nuke school together!  Very cool!!

Mikesmom- I could have written your post, after 2 semesters, my son was done, he as well is an E3 and in the nuke program, what ship and div is your son?

My son had always wanted to be a part of the US Navy, but went to college first because of our "suggestion" (get a degree first - go in as an officer...) but what a disaster! He is a very smart person, but is a "bottom line" sort of thinker.  He absolutely HATED having to take English Composition, Philosophy, etc. when he wanted a science career.

At Christmas, we found out that he wasn't going to return to school, and was enlisting - surprise!

He talked to a recruiter and after some pre-testing they both thought he would score high enough on the ASVAB to pick a more technical/science related field.   Well, he scored a 95! So he chose to enter the nuke program, which gave him (along with some college time) an automatic rate of E-3.

I don't think he really wants any of his shipmates in BC to know he's going to be a nuke - I guess they're the "Nerds of the Navy"  :)

Good morning everyone, I sent my son 3 more letters today, haha.. I put some jokes, the football scores and the peanuts comics from Sunday's paper. We had some great events and news at home last night so I was excited to share that with him. Writing makes me feel better, even though I don't get an immediate response like texting, it still helps... Have a great day all!!!

@heathert ..my son j is in Ship 11 div 006. Bummer they are not together. Any form letter yet? Nothing here. Got my box Friday around 12 but I was out of town. Opened it Sunday night. He ripped a piece of paper out of his address box (YZ page) and wrote a note on the reverse side. It was the best note I could have ever gotten. I laminated it and carry it with me everywhere.

My son went in a an E-3 and is planning in being a MA (master at arms - police). I write everyday to him. I have not gotten my form letter yet but called my son's recruiter twice to confirm.
