WELCOME to PIR 11/16/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hi everyone, I am Lala aka the PIR Ribbon Queen. I'm from NC and I have two Sailors. A daughter, 22, who is an AO in VA; she had PIR in July, 2010 and her hubby (my SIL) also 22 who is an IT in VA and his PIR was Oct 2010. We have experienced lots of different things through this journey and I am here to help you in any way I can. If you have any questions at all please ask them here on this page and one of us will do our best to answer it for you. I often get messages from people who either have not been accepted to this website yet so they can't post comments or they are just to shy at this point to say anything yet. So, you can send me a private message if you like and I will do my best to help you.My email address is uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com You can also click on my name or picture and it will take you to my page and then you can click add as a friend or send a message

. My Sailor was in the performing division 936 and was in the choir. For now the best advice is to write letters every day if you can. Even if your SR said not to, do it anyway. They quickly change their mind and love hearing their name called for mail call. It is like Christmas to them and they say the letters are what gets them through the next day. Try not to worry if the first couple of letters seem down or sad. This is normal and it does get better. You will be able to tell a difference in them with each letter you receive. I know this is hard but be strong, you can do this. And on the days when you feel like you can't do this just come to this page and we will help you through it :-) I know you are looking forward to those first letters and calls :-) And I look forward to getting to know all of you and hearing more about your soon to be Sailors :-)

Comment by GSDGirl on September 25, 2012 at 2:17pm

Oh and thank you for the pant leg explanation, I was wondering what the heck that was about ,lol.

Comment by GSDGirl on September 25, 2012 at 2:16pm

My son wanted Seabee's so bad, but there just were no openings when he took his ASVAB, so he got AT. Which is great too!!!

He left the 18th, assuming ( I know not always good to do) that his PIR will be the 16th. I sure hope, don't think I could last a week longer, lol.

I got his box on Friday but still no form letter, however his recruiter was awesome, and called me with his address, checked it with the on on the website so that is helpful. Just can't wait to hear from him again. He sounded so down (which I am sure he was tired, and thinking holy cow what did I do) when I got his call last Tuesday.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on September 25, 2012 at 1:47pm

The Box:

...of smelly clothes! LOL

If your SR (Seaman Recruit) took their cellphone with them it will be returned in the box...look in the pants pockets and the shoes if you don't see it outright. Often times it will be taken apart and stuffed into the toes of the shoes.

If you're wondering why one or both pants legs are rolled up...it's because they get their feet measured and they have no time to roll them back down (they're gonna take 'em off anyways!)

The box will arrive by Fed Ex about 5-7 days after your SR arrives at RTC (Recruit Training Command).

Some don't send a box home...they just wear the clothes on their back (donate or throw them away), bring only the necessary items that they can keep and use the payphone at RTC for their "I'm here!" call.

You are welcome!

If you are not sure of your PIR date...just stay here until you find out. You can easily switch Groups to the correct date. You would just choose the "Leave the Group" link just above the Members Pictures and then join the correct one.
