FTLW - Thank you soooo much for the reply. This is great information. He is E3 and has signed for Aircrew. He's staying back in GL in anticipation of starting A School 12/10/12. He'll be waiting on a final clearance for a wavier in GL. For now I'm just going to go with Sailor until I see him unless anyone knows different:-) BTW they meet with someone on Tuesday for their final flight, etc. details.
Here are some links to see the rest of the Group Rate Marks and insignias and to look into the structure: (This can be a little mind boggling...not for the faint hearted LOL! )
Group Rate Marks for Pay Grades E-1 to E-3
http://www.navy.mil/navydata/ranks/rankrate.html (This is the home page for the above two links)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy_enlisted_rates
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Navy_enlisted_wa...
Also the 2013 Pay Charts:
They are all Sailors. Officers and enlisted alike.
I'm going to give you a TMI version (that's the only way I can do it! LOL)
To address them: It's done by Rate (Enlisted Personnel have Rate and Officers have Rank in the Navy) you need to know what their rate is.
SR in BC is Seaman Recruit...the lowest Rate. Most times they are just addressed as Recruit.
BUT, SR-Seaman Recruit is also the Rate for E-1 (Enlisted 1). This is the first Pay Grade level. In BC their pay is slightly lower than an E-1 (it is an E-1 with less than four months of service)
There are four basic Groups:
Seaman - Deck, Administration, Mediacl, Dental
Fireman - Engineering,Hull
Airman - Aviation
Constructionman - Seabees
Pay Grade/Rate
E-1's are Recruits
E-2's are Apprentices
E-3's are ...man. Seaman, Fireaman, Airman, Constructionman
Seaman - SR SA SN (The medical Dental field has abbreviations too...I just don't know how much they're used)
Fireman - FR FA FN
Airman - AR AA AN
Constructionman - CR CA CN
Find out what Rate your Sailor is at as of Graduation. E-3 is the highest you can go in BC. They will love you walking up to them and calling them by their Rate!
They will also have Rate Marks on their sleeves of their Dress Uniforms at PIR if they are an E-2 or higher:
E-2's - 2 marks
E-3's - 3 marks
Seaman - White on Blues and Dark Blue on Whites
Fireman -Red
Airman - Green
Constructionman - Sky Blue
Now, that's "on paper". What they get called by their superiors is another story! Probably just... "Constructionman!!!"
Pete'sMom - I wouldn't send any more mail to RTc (just in case that is what you meant). You can...it will follow them to A school. But ocassionally we have heard it not getting to them My son got his...I wrote in the last week. It took a couple of weeks.
I think this can happen when the Sailors move around a bit after BC rather than those that go to their next command and stay put. Also, it is Holiday time so the regular mail gets slower.
You can still write and save it and give it to them at PIR...if you have things that you wish to say and want to espress them while it is fresh!
As far as how to address them, I'll post that next.
CONGRATULATIONS to the new Silors of Divisions 01-04!
Congratulations to all of you here as well!
