WELCOME to PIR 11/16/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

From the this wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Navy_enlisted_rates

The current insignia for Petty Officers came about in 1894, and is a perched eagle with spread wings facing left (usually referred to as a "crow," due to its black color on white uniforms and the outdated dungaree working uniforms) atop a rating mark, with chevrons denoting their rank below.[4]

There are RPO's  - Recruit Petty Officees within each Division. They wear a Collar Device. Like ellen stated "crow" equals Eagle.

Here is a post on that:

Here is a chart of the COC at RTC (Chain of Command):

Click to open in another page and zoom.

Here is the link to RTC website that explains all the RPO positions (Recruit Petty Officers):

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/recruit_petty_officer.asp

Here is a pic of a Collar Device(I belive there are a different number of Chevrons depending on their postition) that the RPO's wear:

On the Chart RCPO(Recruit Chief Petty Officer) = ARPOC, RLPO(Recruit Lead Petty Officer = AROC

But it is too hard to yell... "RRRRCPO or RRRRLPO get your ________ in here"...So ARRRRRRPOOOC and ARRRRROC it is.

These positions are just for the duration of Boot Camp.

Jt said he earned a crow pin.... Lol was wondering what it was an dhow they earned it. His letters also said he had to win his phone calls... But he didn't because of lld. :( Better luck next time I hope. His letters were sad but at same time he sounded good. He's agrevated about his side flaring up but seems to think its gonna get better fast and he'll be back to full blast by this week.
:) said his favorite thing in bootcamp was "when do I get to blow things up??" Said he bet his RdC he could put te gun back together faster a different way and it still work perfectly and he won... RdC was supposed to do 100 push-ups but hasn't yet. Said to catch him later on it. Haha .. Doubt he gets paid for those!!!

We LIKE questions LOL!

Pshaw...I know...I still can't get out of my son what they did on Saturdays in BC...maybe he doesn't WANT to remember!

Comment by GSDGirl on October 13, 2012 at 9:31pm

Thank you diannep!! Sorry for the crazy questions.

I try asking my husband these questions but he says he doesn't really remember much from BC, lol.

Comment by diannep on October 13, 2012 at 9:27pm

...just 901

Comment by GSDGirl on October 13, 2012 at 9:24pm

Thanks FTLW, my son told me that a later recruit gave him some tips and that BC gets easier in the later weeks, less yelling, more PT and training.  Which I think is great, and hope my son repays it for some other new SR, which I am sure he will.

So one more quick question, if HIS division messes up, then are all of the 900 divisions in trouble or just 901?

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on October 13, 2012 at 9:13pm

GSDGirl - Yes, the 900's are all on Ship 02. They are integrated divisions male/female, so I would imagine that there might be some mixing of Divisions for berthing in the compartments since each compartment houses 88+ recruits...no wasted space LOL.

I bet LaLa has an answer for that as her daughter was in a 900 division.

Comment by diannep on October 13, 2012 at 9:11pm

Yep, when they first arrive at bootcamp, they are up for over 30 hours....at one point, they sit with their knees in the back of the SR in front of them.  They will be up all night again for BattleStations and by the time they can hit their racks, it will be about 38 hours later!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on October 13, 2012 at 9:09pm

Both answers are correct for the "Sharks"... context as ellen said! The "punishment" and the RDC's are both "Sharks" the RDC's office is called the "shark" tank sometimes.

"Crow"...yes, if you could give us the sentence (no names if any) then that would help. I am leaning towards the "pin" as ellen said.

lemeonelephant actually does not post much on the PIR groups...but you will find her on Boot Camp Mom's and LOTS of other places...she does a lot for the site :-D.
