Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME to PIR 11/16/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

SHARKS: The SRs have to lie on their bellies and raise up their legs/head/arms like they are swimming. In my son's group back in 2009, they had to sing a song as they did this. :-) He said it was used a punishment (but was a good exercise for them!).

Comment by ellen0502 on October 13, 2012 at 7:01pm: Don't know what context "crow" was used in, I am assuming it was the "crow" pin (actually an eagle).

As for the "sharks"...LOL

Sharks is an IT "exercise" where the recruit lays on his/her stomach arms above the head, feet straight back, then they arch their backing lifting up on their stomach, and move like they are swimming. They repeat a phrase (there are several of them from what I understand), but one of them is "Please don't eat me Mr Sharkey, us recruits don't taste so good."

lemonelephant is the username of one of the more helpful moms in NFM.

I got a lot of information, he even talks about the food: apple, bananas and even cookies for dessert.

He didn't really mention much either aside from getting extra exercise/ threats of lost privileges such as letters and phone calls because of division mess ups. He didn't mind it, lol he says it is making a bit more muscular.

Comment by Mattmother on October 13, 2012 at 6:04pm: He says the first week was a chaos but they are getting use to the rutines, the commanders are very strict but very knowledgable. Other comment was : has been hard but I'm still very proud of my decision and what we're doing.

Anyway, my son Matt is in 14/008 and I see another Matt is there too (Hi Mattmother!). Welcome! I've gotten 1 letter but he didn't really mention the rest of the division. I'll pump him for info next letter I send.
