N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hi Zkids's mom. My son will also be headed to Pensacola as an AM.

Flight is booked. We are also booked at the Residence Inn. We needed a 2 bedroom so that our daughter can join us. Zkid's mom, my son will be heading to Pensacola as well. My in-laws live about 5 hours from there, so hopefully they will see him on occasion.

Nicole, The form letter can take 1-3 weeks to be received. Hang tight for a little longer, your recruit may surprise you!

Hi everyone! I just joined today and already feel a lot better! I got the form letter yesterday. My son is AV and will be going to A School in Pensacola. Is anyone else's sailor going there as well?

Thanks Diane...Molly is an 11 year old Golden, and is already sending her buddy a nice letter detailing all of the naughty things she has done since he left. I wish we were close enough to drive, it would be awesome to see his face, and Molly's, when they reunited. Hoping Skype or Facetime will help later on.

Thanks for the hotel info as well!

SeasonedMom:  Don't forget to send him a letter from his dog, complete with inked paw print!  They love that!

For those who are driving to PIR, consider taking your sailor's dog with you !  There are pet-friendly hotels.  Residence Inn is one....and they take larger dogs....I saw a golden retriever when we were there.  Navy Lodge is also pet friendly, I believe.

On flights, consider Southwest Airlines.  Into either Milwaukee WI or Chicago-Midway.....Milwaukee is a shorter drive by about 20-30 min because of traffic in Chicago but not Milwaukee.  Southwest charges no change fee, so if your SR is delayed, no problem (just pay difference in fare, which could actually be less).  2 bags check for free and they include a discount rental car code.   Suggested hotels by others on this site are:

Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you don't have military ID), mile or so from RTC.  Residence Inn, Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express....these last 4 are 4-5 miles from base, and close to the MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR.

I love that he still has his silly sense of humor. He added our dog to the list of intended guests! I know that both he and the dog would love to see one another at graduation; she got so excited when the box came, smelling his clothes. I'm thinking he misses her most of all, lol!

Just received our letter, and we are getting ready to book our hotel and flights!

Comment by diannep on October 2, 2015 at 9:38am

Good Morning All !  To add on to what FTLW said, they cannot return to RTC with anything either.  You can give them personal items when you meet them at the airport.  But, yes, you can give them a gift in PIR Hall and then hold it for them as you leave.

Comment by TXSnowWhite on October 2, 2015 at 6:58am
I kind of figured she wouldn't be able to keep the gift with her right then and there, just wanted to have something to say hey congrats, we love you. I know I'll probably have to carry it and bring it back home with us.
