OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello! I'm new to this site. My son left for BC on September 25. I have not received a form letter yet, however I did get my "kid in a box." From what I gather, I'm hoping his PIR is on 11/21.I am glad to know that there are other parents going through what I am going through.

Victoria.s mom: my sons recruiter just gave me my sons div# it is 018.. But he gave me a ship name instead of number.??????

I feed so bad for you, on top of what you are going through.. The recruiter that I call has been nothing but NICE to me.. He is the greatest - they all are there. But besides that, he looked up the PIR date it is in the computer.. I set on the phone while he logged into the computer and did this.. maybe you could call another one, I could give you the telephone number of mine if you would like.. I am off to post office to send my first letter to my SR  Ship 13 Div 016...

My daughter left September 25..no letter yet, so i called the recuriter again and told him the devision did not look right and asked if he could recheck that for me..he said he had no way to know her PIR date and he couldn,t tell me her divison number..i am so annoyed..are recuiters suppose to know them things?

Welcome deboraho!  I responded to your question about the drivers license on the other group.  If you mailed it and he hasn't received it, not much you can do but hope that it catches up to him eventually.  But you could try calling the Public Affairs Office and see what they say.  Just not sure there is much they can do.  Hopefully, eventually the mail personnel will get it to him.

I always suggest if you have PIR in the colder months you may want to plan to arrive one or two days earlier than normal if at all possible. With winter weather you never know when a snowstorm could delay or cancel your flight. We have had families who were stuck in airports and unable to get there in time for PIR and I don't want that to happen to you.So yuo may want to try and go on Monday instead of Tuesday.

Hi everyone, I am Lala aka the PIR Ribbon Queen. I'm from NC and I have two Sailors. A daughter, 22, who is an AO in VA; she had PIR in July, 2010 and her hubby (my SIL) also 22 who is an IT in VA and his PIR was Oct 2010. We have experienced lots of different things through this journey and I am here to help you in any way I can. If you have any questions at all please ask them here on this page and one of us will do our best to answer it for you. I often get messages from people who either have not been accepted to this website yet so they can't post comments or they are just to shy at this point to say anything yet. So, you can send me a private message if you like and I will do my best to help you.My email address is uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com You can also click on my name or picture and it will take you to my page and then you can click add as a friend or send a message

. My Sailor was in the performing division 936 and was in the choir. For now the best advice is to write letters every day if you can. Even if your SR said not to, do it anyway. They quickly change their mind and love hearing their name called for mail call. It is like Christmas to them and they say the letters are what gets them through the next day. Try not to worry if the first couple of letters seem down or sad. This is normal and it does get better. You will be able to tell a difference in them with each letter you receive. I know this is hard but be strong, you can do this. And on the days when you feel like you can't do this just come to this page and we will help you through it :-) I know you are looking forward to those first letters and calls :-) And I look forward to getting to know all of you and hearing more about your soon to be Sailors :-)

Yes, everyone please understand that although the form letter may say that PIR is 11/23, it is not!  See ellen's post below...it is the Wed before Thanksgiving, the 21st.  They always have PIR on Wed before Thanksgiving rather than Friday after Thanksgiving.

Good Morning all!
