Since this group is a Wed PIR, the GL A School sailors could go into Chicago on Friday, Sat or Sun. Thanksgiving Day too, but many things may be closed that day.
Bookster: Yes, many take the train into Chicago (train station is right there by RTC), but be mindful of your time to return your sailors to base. They cannot be late!
Bookster, if they have A-school in Great Lakes you can for sure on Saturday or Sunday. You just have to make sure they don't have to be back for watch or duty and get them back in plenty of time for curfew. There really isn't enough time on Friday although some families do it anyway. The train ride is 90 min one way so that is really pushing it for PIR day. The wait for Willis Towers when I went there was almost a 2 hour hour wait so I skipped it and went to the aquarium instead. I wish I had had more time at the Navy Pier. Lots of shops there to do some shopping and much of it is indoors and there are several restaurants including Bubba Gumps and Margarittaville :)
@ LALAribbonqueen- WOW!!! how amazing! So we CAN go to Chicago with our graduating sailors???
Good morning everyone. I am so sorry I have been MIA. I just returned from Great Lakes for 7/7 PIR :) Two of the other PIR facebook group admins and myself went there to gather information to better help all of you get through the boot camp experience. We have some friends there who gave us a tour of the bases and see how it all works. It was amazing. We went to the blood drive and donated blood (my first time ever) lol. We got to go to the NEX, we saw the photo lab, the phone banks, the chapel and we sat in the lobby of the Navy Lodge everyday greeting families as they arrived and talking to Sailors after PIR. We also went to Sarge's meet and greet and had a wonderful time. We went to several restaurants and toured several hotels to see where the best places to stay were and where to avoid. I even took the train into Chicago and then a cab to the aquarium and the Navy Pier. It was all so much fun and I am very pleased with the info we were able to get. I know it is going to help us help you even more than ever before. It was a great time :)
Good morning everyone. Have been out of pocket for the weekend but catching up on all the wonderful comments.
Arizona Mom-I just want to encourage you to hang in there. This has been a tough road, especially us Moms with NO prior military experience at all. Everything is new and puts you on high alert. But as for your struggling recruit and yourself....there is one thing that I am CERTAIN of...God is alive and well, caring for all of our needs. This is where I find my comfort and peace and I am praying for yours as well:) Have a blessed day!
Wooo hooo!! I packed last night!! Kept me busy while I waited for a phone call that never came. I'm SO excited. I know I'm going to be stressed the last week so I figured I'd get it out of the way while I was able to focus so I don't forget anything. I packed my SR's stuff, my first time in his room since he left. I can't wait to see him. Does anybody know when battle stations will be for DIV 026?
15 days people!!!!
