For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I'm also from Southern California. When I was in Great Lakes in March 2013, there was snow. I had a heavy coat, scarf, gloves for driving, athletic shoes with thick socks (didn't want to buy snow boots/regular boots which I wouldnt normally wear at home anyway). I also used a long sleeve shirt layered under my sweatshirt or sweater. And I was in jeans most of the time. I was fine with that. Temps were mid-40s in the daytime.

My son arrived Thanksgiving week when he went to Bootcamp. He said that on Dec 1st, they had their first snow back in 2009. So whether there will be snow or not for you guys, who knows? Be prepared for anything!

Yes, the PIR Hall is heated. We were there in Fe.b years back and it was very comfortable in there. But the wind off the Lake goes right through you when you are walking to and from, so layer! Comfortable shoes are a must since there is a good degree of walking that day. I wore boots and it worked out great.
Yes, your sailors are in the finest so keep that in mind, but also remember that you are sitting in bleachers, so be comfortable too.

Ladies, please check out monica's post below (from the 10/31 PIR group) re: the Ramada. We have had some bad reviews in the past on this hotel, and recommend that you all check out TripAdivsor.com for reviews before staying there. monica's post was pretty scary:
