Hi moms! Does anyone know if I can send my son his contact lenses so he can wear them at PIR? He wears the dailies so there wouldn't be any solutions or anything. I was just wondering if he was allowed to wear them for PIR? I thought I read that somewhere. Thanks!!

10. MILITARY SERVICE OBLIGATION, SERVICE ON ACTIVEDUTY AND STOP-LOSS FOR ALL MEMBERS OF THE ACTIVEAND RESERVE COMPONENTS, INCLUDING THE NATIONAL GUARD.

a. FOR ALL ENLISTEES: If this is my initial enlistment, I must serve a total of eight (8) years, unless I am sooner discharged or otherwise extended by the appropriate authority. This eight year service requirement is called the Military Service Obligation. Any part of that service not served on active duty must be served in the Reserve Component of the service in which I have enlisted. If this is a Reenlistment, I must serve the number of years specified in this agreement, unless I am sooner discharged or otherwise extended by the appropriate authority. Some laws that affect when I may be ordered to serve on active duty, the length of my service on active duty, and the length of my service in the Reserve Component, even beyond the eight years of my Military Service Obligation, are discussed in the following paragraphs.

Just to add to the enlistment question.

ALL service members have a minimum eight year commitment to their branch of service when they initially enlist.

Whatever time they do not spend on Active Duty (full-time duty) or spend in the Guard/Reserves (those who drill one weekend a month and two weeks per year, and are subject to deployment), is spent in IRR (Inactive Ready Reserves).

So most Active Duty do 4 years active. Then, if they separate (that's what it is called :-)) from their branch they will go on an IRR list and then what CryptoDad outlined below.

OR they can Re-enlist after those four (or more depending on occupation like was stated) years of Active Duty.

Most "Active" (drilling) Reservist/Guard (like Air National Guard) do 6 years. So for them the equation is six "active" Reserve and two on IRR if they were to separate after the six.

CryptoDad is corrrect.  Entrance to get into PIR is totally by having names on an Access List and it's free~~  Everyone needs their state issued driver's license/id, school id with picture (ok if last year if current year not received yet), or birth certificate/social security card for children not of school age.
