For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

There are no dumb Navy questions.
Most enlistment are for 4 years. For highly technical jobs with extensive training, enlistments can stretch to 5 - 6 years.
The reserve component is with the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), No monthly drills, no annual 2 week active training, no pay. But in a national emergency (like total all out war) the IRR can be pressed into duty.

Dumb Navy question: Does everybody sign up for four initial years or is there different sign up lengths? My son said 4 years active 4 years reserve. Is this the same for everybody? and what exactly does reserve mean??

We did the same. Nice to have something lean on. We had arranged that no one would move until we all had solid eye contact, then mom ans sis would move out and I would act as spotter. Worked well because she somehow ended up surrounded by tall guys thru the entire ceremony. We had no idea where she was.
